Buzz: We Did Not Stop The Fire

Pascal Derrien writes a personal poem utilizing the energy of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire"

The 60's was about "Power to the People" and that led to the Hippie Generation of the 70's and "Flower Power".  Where did power actually reside in these movements other than in the hands of others.  Some of these others were professional writers, others were professional artists and others were professional activists.  Someone got paid in these attempts at revolution and it was not the people, someone paid the price in these revolutions and it was the people.  We know that because The Who sang about revolutions simply moving power from one group on the left to another group on the right and then back from the right side to the man on the left. The song ironically was called "We Won't be Fooled Anymore" but the song told us we are !!!
The SELLING PEACE CAMPAIGN was not going to work because not only is this a professional trying to create a professional campaign but the people who were supposed to buy that campaign were already being sold, which is just another item to buy in a society of people who have been taught to look at life as buying things rather than knowing why we buy things.

It is not for me to change a single person or launch a campaign which I need money for, which will either come from me charging a price for it or as a non-profit call for donations, either way the net result is that it is another brick in the wall of attention, all being thrown at people's minds.  The John Lennon video did say something good about Canada in the 70's where he talks about Canada choosing John Lennon, as much as John Lennon chose Canada.

Now the output of this PEACE CAMPAIGN is not over, but it is over in the minds of people because we are so used to moving from ad to another,  from one campaign to another, from one blog message to another.   That does not mean that there is not great education in this video, it means that the moment we listen to it, we are making meaning for others - we are not allowing this video to educate our own self and then be content with that learning - we want to do something with it, we are so impatient with media today, that doing anything else is considered to be a waste of our time.  By the end of the year we wonder where the year went.

In the ATTENTION CENTERED WORLD - who gave away our attention since no one stole it; it is we who gave that way - the professional today is my bitch.

The psychological profession has been an arsenal of mind weapons that have been sold to professionals and instead of teaching people to fish, these professions supplied their own branded fish and when our attention is filled with these incoming messages, dysfunction and function become the words that appear on the collective consciousness.  The personal is a professing but not necessarily a profession. Movies reflect that instead of professing we become our own worst enemy, our minds becoming an explosion of incoming media and whether it is Jack Nicholson in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" or Taxi Driver, it is through this art that the film maker shows us what it is we can become and recognize this as us :
