Social Media Is Destroying Humanity

Social Media Is Destroying Humanity

MA ur

COPYRIGHT 2019, ONWORDS & UPWORDS INC. JIM MURRAY, PROP.This is a rant. It’s not sugar-coated or politically correct. But the essence of it is simple…it’s me being pissed off and fed up with all the bullshit floating around out there and magnifying a tiny speck of it as I am wont to do every so often.

So if this is something that you think might upset your precious sensibilities or political leaning, well have a nice day, ‘cause this isn’t for you.

Social media is the worst fucking thing that has ever happened. Worse than world wars. Worse than all the crimes you can think of. Worse than having to eat your peas when you were a kid.

Social media has done one thing to bring about the destruction of humanity. Just one fucking thing. It has, though its very egalitarian nature, destroyed the idea of objective reality. And by objective reality, I mean truth.

There is not a human being on social media today who has the slightest idea what the truth is. Not even me and up till the last couple of years, I thought I had a pretty good handle on it.

But no more. I am lost in an old under-inflated innertube floating on a sea of lies, rumours, innuendo, supposition, cons and scams and various assorted other bullshit.

I have no idea what to believe about anything anymore.

I used to believe that there was hope that the world could finally figure out that if it became a unified place and shared the things it knew, it could be a better place for everyone.

But instead it very much appears to be filling up with people who would much rather divide than join, much rather hate than love, much rather wallow in ignorance than cultivate the capabilities of their mind.

And they fill the walls of the social media world with bullshit beyond belief. But it comes at us so hard and so fast and in such volume these days that it has bent our minds. It has warped our perceptions, and it has dragged more than its share of lost souls over to the dark side, where they are willing to believe anything that’s put in front of them so long as the painful process of actually thinking things through is removed from their to do lists.

Being a cockeyed optimist, I try to convince myself that this isn’t really the destruction of the intellect, but merely a rather large sinkhole that the majority of us will somehow figure out how to circumvent.

But who the fuck am I kidding? Probably just myself, holding on to the now antiquated notion that there is any such thing as truth out there.

But I do have a memory and I do remember a simpler time before the world of social media became contaminated with lies and hate and all purpose bullshit.

And though it pains me to admit it, I no longer believe it’s possible to get back there.

The only truth we know is the truth we tell the people we love. And we don’t do that by broadcasting it to the world, praying like fools that the world will ‘like’ our sentiment. Feeling depressed and dejected if they don’t. Lashing out because this social media world has turned you, quite subtly, into an attention junkie, who will believe anything, like anything, comment on anything, just to cause a reaction.

It is a very big inner tube we are floating on the sea of bullshit in. It’s holds billions of us. All looking for the truth, but no longer with any sort of clue as to what that might be.

A great rant, Jim, and so true. There is no more truth. How can we believe anything? Why should we believe anything? Social media is a large magnifying glass that allows the worst aspects of humanity to fester out of control. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Perhaps SM is just a (black) mirror of humanity's already compromised handle on reality/truth. Still, there are efforts to remedy this and if we are not dissentivized by the seeming dominance of this mirror over our lives, we can get back to this state of mature understanding of the world. Yes, some of the social media are toxic as hell, but not all of them are bad, while it's also how you use them. Take for example the "influencers" in many of these social media. Some of them may be actual experts who have an organic influence on the world through their words, but the majority of them are vain morons who spend way too much time and money building their networks. If we see them for what they are, any power they have over us is bound to deflate like a balloon that's been exposed to the world (beyond the protected environment of a house).

Nothing’s changed Jim Murray The more things change, the more they stay the same. The bullshitters, the manipulators the exploiters - they’ve been around since Adam. Fake news has also been around since the beginning of gossip. Nah, I think we’re still the same mob whose warts and all have just been more illuminated by SM. The more troubling question for me is - are we ever going to evolve as a species? We’re little changed from the schedenfreude-driven blood-thirsty hordes of yesteryear who repeatedly wiped out the men and women of reason in their midst!

If we, society, continue on this social media chaotic trajectory for another 10 years, our brains will have shrivelled to those of Neanderthals.

So am I. I would certainly not be here today if it were not for social media. These things gave me direction so I could do a deep dive. I've learned far more than I wanted to know. I'm out straight these days. Damned hard when 67 is around the corner. If there is anything you can't find, let me know. That data-space is a-tumble with misdirection and [fillintheblank]. I speak to the indoctrinated every day and riddle them with facts that sound a hell of a lot like science fiction. I sit with coffee and my childhood friend every morning in her back yard and have to calm her down while she when she expresses how she just wants to slap the world in the face. I know the feeling, but I also know it won't do any good. It takes time to recognize the "shills" on social media, but if one wants knowledge, it's the place to go. We in the US are being dumbed down each day. I tell people to go outside this country if they want REAL news. We aren't getting it here.

That's all good Joyce \ud83d\udc1d Bowen Brand Ambassador @ beBee. But I was really taking about social media here, and the dumbing down that it is responsible for , which are one of the key elements that the real destructive forces, ie the greedy, use to keep people from organizing against them. I know there is a lot of truth out there in other media. But dumbed down people don't go looking and even if they do find something, then tend not to really get it. I know that sounds terribly cynical. But Im just reporting on what I see.
Actually, I found a lot of truth on the Internet. I discovered the biggest con job is mainstream media and television. Shocked the hell out of me and saved my life. Everyone around me knew I was dying. I finally had to admit it, too. A lovely young man directed me to a few things on YouTube and a Netflix flick. He saved my life in doing so. I dug and dug and dug--bombarding him with things I'd learned. I often ask him if he regrets sending me on this path. But the smile on his face when he greets me tells me he's glad I'm still alive. My friends are grateful--hell--you never know whether your friends care until you see sadness as they reflect the impending death in your eyes in theirs. I knew they were going to miss me. When you are old, health does not rebound as it does in youth. It has taken well over a year for a recovery nobody believed would happen. That recovery involved staying away from doctors unless I had a bone to pick. The industrialization of medicine has crushed that field. I learned I'm better off going to the corner store. Humanity is certainly being destroyed--but it is humanity doing the destroying. Projecting the responsibility on to data in the air is a non-starter. I now lead a group centered on preventing a further swerve from survival. We collect facts and contact media and speak to the man/woman on the street daily, etc. If insanity exists, it's not that communication medium in cyberspace. Our group reflects on the mindboggling circumstances of today. Baby-Boomers have been asleep on the job--that's us. I fear things have gone so far, we are destined to lose. That's more because people believe the damn boob tube more than what can be found on the Internet. The cons are out here--sure there's some on social media-- but you can pick them out with practice. But the vast majority of conning is coming from people outside our doors.

Geez, Jim, you mean we can't "Make America Great Again?' I agree with you in part but when the shit hits the fan the Muslim next door is there to help and when the dikes start to collapse the guy beside you filling sand bags is black or brown and all that matters is the job that needs doing. The world can be rallied by social media like it was in the Arab Spring but with luck the young folks are learning that after the rally is the hard part. And so it goes.
