The Long View…Long Time Coming

I stopped writing longer format posts on US politics almost a month ago now. (I’m still doing memes though, so fear not).

There were a couple of very good reasons for that.

1. It’s become completely and utterly insane, and since I do have a little of the OCD, I worried about getting sucked so deeply into this vortex that I might never come back.

2. I got some good advice from my sister who is very smart about this stuff and, unlike me, views most of this bullshit in the context of history. In other words, she plays the long game.

Consequently, she has put me onto a couple of different people who look at this phenomenon in that same way.

One of those people is David Brooks, who is an op-ed columnist for the New York Times. Now that won’t mean very much to anyone over in Steve Bannonland. Because they think of the Times and the Washington Post as Liberal rags controlled by the Lefties.

And it’s too bad for them, because if they were to take the time and listen to these people talk about America, they might actually learn something about the objective reality of what is happening in the world today and how what is happening in America is just the most visible example to all of us over here.

It’s the first step for me towards weaning myself off the Trivial Pursuit of CNN and MSNBC and really looking at the long game that’s being played here.

When you do that, you start to see that Trump’s sucking up all the air on conventional news programs is something that is intentional by the real people who really run things, control most of the conventional media and really want to keep people distracted and dumb.

But you also see that this is something that could be the bellweather of some pretty fundamental changes that need to come about in order for the world to calm down and regain some balance.

Yes, Mr Brooks is one them New York intellectuals. But I have never thought of that as a bad thing. Someone has to have the big picture in their mind and be able to tell people that looking at it that way is a lot healthier than getting caught up in the day to day bullshit which seems, at the moment, to be an endless wave.
