The Thing About Being A beBee Ambassador

The Thing About Being A beBee Ambassador

363b2772.png

It occurred to me this rainy morning in May that the number of beBee ambassadors has grown substantially since I first wrote this, and that maybe a lot of the new ambassadors would not have seen it. So here is is again. All the points are still valid. My point of view has not changed although I have become more an advocate for critical thought here than maybe I used to be. But that's OK, because, IMHO, critical thought is attractive to bright people and beBee needs as many bright people as they can get.

Here’s the thing.
Right now there are somewhere in the area of 20 beBee brand ambassadors. I pretty much know them all. I had a conference call with several of them last week and we had a hell of a good time.
These are bright people, all from different walks of life, but with one thing for sure in common and that’s a desire to see beBee succeed.
I can’t speak for the rest of them, but a lot of us came from LinkedIn where for a year or so things looked pretty good. Most of us were bloggers and might have had business building as some sort of ulterior motive when we joined LinkedIn.
But all of us understood how it works. How long it takes and how much honest effort you have to put into build online networks and relationships.
Many of us ran into the same bullshit at LinkedIn at the same time, and because we were all connected to John White, MBA

Hi Jim Murray, I agree too with you & for many years I have taken many connections off line from LI because of limits & restrictions. I enjoy helping folks & am here to help beBee succeed & they will be a great continuing success. If you read " Connecting The Dots" that I wrote it was posted on The Creative Coast which is another non profit where I help small business startups, all at no cost to really help connect people & share experiences. If I can help you in any way call or email me 24 x 7 @ 1.404.750.3200, keep up the good work here my friend!! regards, Bill Stankiewicz, www.savannahsupplychain.com

Thanks Milos Djukic...very thoughtful as usual. I just wanted to make sure that everybody understand what being an Ambassador actually means. It actually hasn't really altered anything I do here. I do it for the common good.

Oink! 🐷. That'' Pig Latin for I gitcha Jim Murray! You've got a nice "in your eyeballs" style of writing that my alter ego Bo " bad boy" Buzzbee can relate to. Keep up the good writting Jim, and thanks for all the pro bono work you put in. It doesn't go unnoticed in my little hovel of a hive. 🐝

Thanks Jim Murray! As usual, I am just an ugly fractal troll. The best marketing in social structures, including social networks is a byproduct of a trust and the visions that are common for a large group of thoughtful, committed people (with or without the title) who can effortlessly change the world for the better. Their world and our world. This is a long-term process and the ultimate task for all beBee users. People tend to beleive that an enthusiastic support of someone or something that is worthy means to be a cheerleader. But it is still a sales relationship. I would rather call it this time a social responsible behaviour. George C. Homans, American sociologist and founder of behavioral sociology pointed out that social structure is a human interaction. The mere fact of belonging to something that is worthy will give us freedom. Freedom to develop and grow together. We won't forget each other and human interactions, right?

Thanks David Grinberg. Yeah for me it started out as a kind of revenge thing. But then I realized that there's no revenge against an uncaring entity. Now it's a marketing thing. I want this site to be the place to be. That's the best revenge of all.

Nicely stated, as usual, Jim Murray Your blogs about beBee and other efforts -- along with that of all the ambassadors and fans of this wonderful budding social network -- has played an instrumental role in attracting more users to the site and growing its popularity. The fact is, to be blunt like you, LinkedIn couldn't give a rat's ass about it's users, especially the non-paying ones. This is especially true for independent writers who once helped build LI's publishing platform (Pulse) into the go-to site for independent writers. But then LI stripped bloggers of their ability to fully engage with their own networks who voluntarily chose to follow them. This was a cold slap in the face, to put in mildly. Thus, as you state, the exodus from LI for greener pastures began shortly thereafter -- and for good reason. Those of us who were led to beBee by the platform's "Moses" (John White) found an oasis in the desert. And for those who try to belittle ambassadors as"cheerleaders," I say this: Cheerleaders are all about showing spirit, support, enthusiasm and teamwork. How do I know? My better half, Nicole, was a cheerleader coach for 9-years. So to those who belittle the dedication, time and efforts of this group of impressive and admirable ambassadors and fans of beBee, I would just say this: lighten up a little! Thanks for all you do, Jim, along with the other fine ambassadors and fans of beBee. Buzz on!

All of us bees is the mantra I have been chanting since the beginning, Kevin Pashuk

Dear Jim, I would never accuse you of being an elitist, as evidenced by the fact you let me into your circle of friends. I've had much to say on this topic, and a recent post of mine went way north of 7000 views. I've gotten to (virtually) know many of the ambassadors through engagement. My warning was that we beBee users guard ourselves and not let the Ambassador program become part of the 'in' crowd, like any form of recognition is on other platforms. Part of that guarding is watching language like the following clip from the Ambassador's Terms and Conditions " beBee will indicate an Ambassador’s status with a special marking on their beBee profile signifying their premiere status on bebee.com." The words 'premiere status' could be misinterpreted. My post also declared that it up to all of us bees, ambassadors or not, to build beBee into an affinity based platform that actually succeeds.

#5 Phil Friedman. Thanks for your comment. As I said, I am mostly speaking for myself and am admittedly getting to know the other ambassadors. But the among us the question of trolls has come up. And by trolls I do not mean those who offer intelligent criticism, because that's tantemount to shooting myself in the foot.

In business you always reach a point when your business model attracts detractors, you can not ignore them when it is constructive but it should not become a nemesis either. Personally I focus on positive stuff as much as I can it does not mean I am naïve (or maybe I am :-))
