The Unsustainable Business Model Called America

The Unsustainable Business Model Called America

Digital
undat

VeursThere is a passive-aggressive civil war going on in America right now.

Anybody who doesn’t live there and has a couple of brain cells to rub together can see this very clearly.

Even a lot of people in America can see this. But, for one reason or another, they are either ignoring it or praying that it will somehow go away.

In the bigger picture sense, America is like a bad poker player. Bluffing its way through the game of world domination. This was all well and good when the game was all about military might, weaponry, and even espionage.

But the world has changed. It is transitioning from the industrial paradigm to the information paradigm. Physical resources are not as important as information.

Countries like China, Japan and even Russia know this and are moving into more dominant positions, while America is being held back by the innate greed and anachronistic old school values of its aristocratic and predominantly white billionaire class.

This has created a huge amount of political/ideological division in the country and turned it inward, creating vacuums of influence around the world, which are quickly being filled by other countries.

Corruption Is The Body Blow To The Business Model

America’s internal conflicts have less to do with ideologies than they do with corruption.

The main mechanism that the old white billionaire class uses to control the government is, quite simply, money. Under the table money from lobbyists combined with campaign donations.

The combination of greed and the necessity for money to keep their pork barrel jobs has made US politicians absolute slaves to the controlling interests. And it has now gotten to the point where everybody knows it.

Sadly, this is what we in marketing call an unsustainable business model, simply because, in order to run even a corrupt country with any sense of logic and order, the distribution of wealth needs to be much more equitable than it currently is in the US.

This concentration of wealth in the hands of a relatively minuscule number of people and organizations and the marked absence of any incentive to put that wealth to work in a way that will benefit the lower classes does two incredibly negative things:

1. It sustains and grows this inequity.

2. It dramatically reduces what little buying power the lower classes have, which will eventually impact on the super wealthy and the corporate entities that produce the vast majority of what the lower classes consume.

You don’t have to be a Ph.D. in economics to see that this makes no sense at all and that its unsustainability will eventually lead to a collapse of the current system that the US so proudly describes as democratic and capitalist.

Further complicating matters is that this corruption has dramatically slowed the forward progress of the country in world markets to a crawl.

Unsustainability Kills The Entrepreneurial Market

What little activity there is being led by a bunch of visionary entrepreneurs who, because they are visionary, and see the entire world as their market.

And because they see themselves in this way, they would not be averse to simply packing up and leaving for friendlier business environments when the business malaise in the US turns into a plague that the rest of the world wants nothing to do with, which is, in fact, is slowly becoming the case.

The other issues that US entrepreneurs face have to do with immigration, making it difficult to attract the talent they need and the recent undoing of net neutrality, which creates a completely lopsided Internet environment, and which will cause huge damage to the entrepreneurial market.

The Trump Factor

With the election of Donald Trump, the US has actually poured salt on their already gaping wounds.

Instead of working to find ways to foster cooperation and remain a major player in the world, Trump is slowly isolating America from the rest of the world.

This has more to do with his insane desire to have absolute control of the country, which he markets under the guise of putting the country first in all negotiations with the world.

Fortunately, he is no Hitler or Mau and will likely never see this complete cultural isolation come to fruition, for the simple reason that the inequity between the rich and poor is, probably, sooner rather than later, bound to implode the economy and collapse the country.

The Future Does Not Look Bright From Here

Add to this, the issues previously mentioned and what you could end up seeing is a mass migration of world market companies to other places where their businesses are not faced with draconian disadvantages.

All of this would add insult to injury and make any sort of recovery, even through a radical change in government, a more distant light at the end of the tunnel.

The world will shift all its trade priorities away from America, (which they are starting to do now anyway), despite the fact that some countries, including my own (Canada), will be profoundly affected by this loss.

Eventually, in this predictive model, America will be left to fend for itself. Without anywhere near the number of resources they currently have at their disposal.

Hopefully, a lot of this (longer term) prediction can be nipped more or less in the bud next year, providing that the smart Americans get out to vote and by their vote prevent their current administration from bringing all of the aforementioned to fruition.

And if they don’t, I hope they understand that they will have nobody but themselves to blame for allowing their country to continue along a road to nowhere.

I sincerely hope I am wrong in what I have outlined here as a possible future for America. But I am far from the only person predicting a rocky future for America, based on a completely unsustainable business model.

I know that there are a lot of really good people there whose lives will be profoundly adversely affected by these events and their consequences.

It really is a force of will issue, and I sincerely hope the will of the good American people is strong enough to right the ship.

Thanks for that Peter. Now we have two shitty futures for America. Nothing like a little choice in your options for self-destruction.

Thank Jim Murray. I am reluctant to say anything about global trends in leadership or to find the next object of criticism. To cut a long story short, I will refrain from anything other than the personal attitude about the future trends in leadership, as expressed in my LI long-form post titled: "Leadership Glossary, Principles and Future Trends" from July 9, 2015 (before a recent global changes): "Leadership is not about getting people to understand and believe in your vision and to work with you to achieve your goals. Under the leadership of such leaders the most beautiful and also some ugliest - the most tragic episodes in history have happened. Leadership is about social influence, mutual support and organizing of people in order to achieve a common goal. Yet, common goals can be very different: correct or incorrect, very material and social, but also immaterial (spiritual). The human interaction, which is a synonym for leadership, means to learn from someone and to educate someone. Future leadership is about social complexity with a growing trend of social encounters and exchanges." Consciousness, care about and the level of social education are excellent indicators of possible future prosperity or a sad decline.

Well Jim Murray just gonna say that the whole system was a lie, just a trick of smoke and mirrors, A great postcard brought to us by the wonders of propaganda... How easy for us to point our finger at the propaganda of others like Kim's North Korea... Building enemies everywhere and a paternalistic big brother to protect what we love from harm... Just heard someone is building an Artificial Intelligence God... ( A far fetch idea ) and already knuckleheads are ready to protest by all means possible the monstrosity... Me thinks we are inches from the extremists of silent gods burning the libraries... So better to throw my gloves into the fire and push the apathetic button... After all as the Japanese say: Shi-kata-ga-nai !!! (Nothing can be done about it !!!.

On this one, Big Jim, I have to disagree -- at least to an extent. What we have been seeing in Russia is a drift into Oligarchy, whereas in China, Japan, and the U.S., we've seen a forced march into Plutocracy. These forms are similar in that both involve de facto rule by a small minority. The difference is that the Oligarchs are total gangsters, whilst the Plutocrats are just rich people who are willing to sacrifice the public good in order to achieve their own completely selfish ends. The crucial fact is that the governance (note I do not say "governments") of these nations are moving toward a greater and greater level of Autocracy. However, the failure is not in terms of a "business model" as such because the fact is nations are not like and do not run like businesses. Indeed, that is what is screwing up the U.S. so badly now, the delusion that it runs like a business and that the best person to run it is a businessman... never mind that Trump has always been a shitty businessman whose only tool for generating profit is bankruptcy. Business focuses primarily on generating profit. Nations focus -- or should -- on providing for the welfare of their citizens. The intramural conflicts are instances of economic class warfare, plain and simple. Because the 1% are greedy and getting greedier all the time. The extramural conflicts are diversions intended to keep the internal forces of fairness and democracy from trashing the "palaces" of the wealthy, which exist in just about every nation of the world. Cheers!

If I am the 1% I am happy with the current situation, I am happy with the Bush's, I am happy with Clinton's, I am happy with the Obama's and I am happy with Trump's. It will be a venerable bonus when the national deficit represents the most egregious symbol of profligacy. Bill Clinton did balance the books at one time but at a certain point the Clinton's, the Bush's, the Obama's and the Trump's became a part of the same cabal, they just make different noises but their ends serve the means. The means are influenced by the invisible hand. That is why we have economists, they make great theory from this sleight of hand. The only thing that the 1% have failed to achieve is the substitution of democracy with plutocracy. America is a gigantic fire sale and globalization is the resulting investments. If you cannot beat them, then join them. The day Bullet Proof Consulting transforms to the level of being a part of that 1%, that is a day to rejoice. Until we are the 1% those that want a different story for the POTUS elections in 2020 will be part of a select flew global minds. It will remain (in America at least) how Talking Heads described it "same as it ever was", the only thing the election of Trump confirmed is just how much a figure head position being President of the United States is. The only reason we should be concerned about Trump is that his ego cannot handle being a figure head, but like the movie Wag the Dog, Dustin Hoffman (as it is in life is on a losing cause). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm-5gWhJ3qY Thump our head against the wall a million times is not the same as creating a tipping point. How does one create a tipping point means thinking bigger and we will know if we are thinking bigger, because that puts us in a straight line paradox of becoming that 1%. BTW I did not write this to want the credit :-)
