...Unless, Of Course, My Head Explodes

...Unless, Of Course, My Head Explodes

Th gg Ets

; \
\

I am a terribly flawed individual. In an age of self-centeredness and entitlement I still give a shit about other people.
Sometimes I get so worried about them that it feels like my head will explode.
Why do I do this to myself? It would be just as easy to say, fuck it and move on. I mean how is it any skin off my nose after all?
I think my big problem, and it’s a challenge I have faced all my adult life, is that I have a psychotic aversion to stupidity. And sadly this condition has worsened over the years as the world appears to have become dumber and dumber.

The Human Race & Other Fairy Tales

If you read sci fi or watch shows like Star Trek or Battlestar Gallactica, you see that the writers’ visions of the earth is that it is really just composed of earthlings.
And like a fool I keep waiting for the people of the world to finally wake up and realize that the only thing that matters is that we are all human. That we are all one big mob of the same thing. Humanoids. Homo Sapiens…People.
But stupidity and its kissing cousin, greed, have always gotten in the way.

AND ITS EVEN TOUGHER
iF YOU'RE EYL [AS
Because instead of creating a world culture where intelligence and humanity are truly admired and sought after, greed has turned it into a culture of haves and have nots. And the have nots are kept in a state of stupidity, by working for subsistence wages, by television showing them things like Jerry Springer and Maury Pauvich and the fucking Kardashians. By radio that plays nothing but fluff that lulls the stupid into a trance. And by the Internet where the stupid lose their ability to hold thoughts in their heads for any length of time because they can always look up the answers.
I know this all sounds cynical as hell. But if you’re not stupid and you think about it, you will realize that it’s true. If you are stupid then this doesn’t matter because you won’t get it anyway.
Whenever a dictator takes over a country, it’s because the people have been sufficiently dumbed down to allow it, and the leader he is replacing wasn’t smart enough to head things off at the pass.
But I don’t really care about that. What I care about is all the un-stupid people who get caught up in waves of stupidity and maybe never really get a chance to realize their potential.
This is a colossal waste.
The hypocrisy of societies that boast about freedom and democracy and then end up with governments made up of the greedy, the uncaring and the hateful is something that we are seeing more and more of these days.
It’s been on my mind a lot. Not because of me. Because I’m OK and more or less out of reach. But I have grandchildren who I know are really bright and have the potential to do great things. And I worry about how the governments that stupidity and greed creates will impact on their opportunity.

Solutions…Such As They Are

Normally, this is where I would propose a solution to the stupidity in the world. But it has been going on so long and these people have been so screwed into the ground that there may not be a solution to it.
All I know is that the nothing of a single unified human race will ever happen until the greedy and manipulative figure out a way to make a profit from it. And that seems unlikely.

So What Do We Do?

1. Draw a circle around yourself that includes everybody you love, and be prepared to defend that circle.
2. Try to maintain as much true humanity as you can, despite the temptation to give into greed or tumble into stupidity.
3. Be aware that if you’re reading this and you get it, you will always be in a minority, because the stupid outnumber the un-stupid about 4 to 1.
4. Choose your friends carefully. Stupidity, can, in some instances, be infectious.
5. Don’t assume that there are any easy solutions out there. You only get out of life what you put into it.
This is not the first post I have written about stupidity. I am kind of fascinated by it. And like anybody else I have a lot of trouble turning away from a train wreck when I see one.

LMAO!!! Great article Jim, really enjoyed it. I find as I get older that my tolerance is really dropping; or are people getting dumber? You do realize that 50% of all people are below average intelligence...

Thanks Todd Jones. I hear you, sadly I think that stupidity which really what prologned ignorance has morphed into is taking your country there, despite all the efforts of the good, smart human beings who live there. I pray you don't end up getting victimized by it.

Thanks Michael O'Neil. I'm glad it has more scientific name. But at the same time I am saddened by your findings.

The willfully ignorant are Trump's (and every other fascist dictator's) core target group. It will; be interesting to see how many smarten up when they lose their social safety net and their health care. They all have guns. And Trump is very poorly guarded. Kevin Pashuk

Actually, Paul, out of every ten people, seven are stupid and only four are at all intelligent.

Jim, you know me as a typically calm guy... but I have one 'button' that does an immediate personality replacement. In the old days, it would have been described as 'not suffering fools lightly'. Today, it's the 'willful ignorance' (thanks Hans Rosling) that frustrates me to know end. But as Ron White said "You can't fix stupid." so I think your strategy is appropriate. I do have one question. Is 'drawing a circle' the same thing as 'building a wall'? (kidding)
