Writing About What You Think Is Important.
I have always subscribed to the notion embodied in the headline above. To that end, I have been devoting some of my time over the past year to anti-Trump blogging and meme posting and I will continue on into the foreseeable future. Because I think it’s important to make sure that people know what the American people elected to the highest office in their land.
Last week I started posting the latest in a series of anti-Trump memes and posts on Facebook and, to a limited extent, here on beBee.I have two perfectly valid reasons for taking this position and disseminating these memes and posts.
I have always despised everything that the Trump brand, such as it is, stood for. Trump is a nasty piece of work and if you don’t believe me, feel free to consult the endless list of people who have done work for him and were screwed over big time.
I am convinced that a huge number of Americans were conned into believing that Trump was going to somehow make their lives better despite the fact that he never actually told anyone how he was going to do this. They just took it on blind faith. But what they are finding out now is that his promises were mostly bullshit and he used them to get himself elected. And now he is proceeding to bring the Tea Party to Washington.
There are a lot of people out there who are now having serious doubts about whether they did the right thing voting for Trump. There are also millions of people protesting his election, and the antiquated electoral college system that makes it possible for the candidate with the fewest votes to actually be named the winner.
These people feel, and rightly so in my opinion, that their vote actually counts for nothing, and that the system is, indeed, as Trump complained long and loud, rigged.
Freedom Of Speech...Look Out!While he may not actually be one, Trump is doing a very good job of being seen as a dictator. He’s attacking and excluding the free press from his post-election process. He’s selecting the most extreme right wing people for his ‘inner circle’. He’s carrying on business as usual and promoting the Trump brand actively to foreign interests. And he is, so far, he is refusing to cut ties with his business, which he is legally obligated to do as president. Instead, he wants his children to run these businesses, thus creating an ongoing conflict of interest.
In short, between many hundreds of lies he spewed during the primary and the election campaigns about his competitors, the absolutely despicable behaviour he regularly demonstrated, the nearly impossible and horrendously expensive measures he proposed regarding immigration, his threats to dismantle a number of existing trade agreements and his complete unwillingness to release his tax returns, he is making a mockery out of the office of president of one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
Why Should I Care About This?
A) I am a Canadian and I work for a number of companies who benefit from trade agreements with the US. Therefore I am justifiably worried that having what I consider to be an ignorant, narcissistic, uninformed bigot in the White House will not help these or any other Canadian companies going forward.
B) I have been following US politics since the early 1960s because I grew up in a border town and spent a good deal of my youth in America. I probably know more about US politics than most Americans.
C) I look at the progress the US has made over the past eight years with Barack Obama as president and feel very strongly that a lot of that progress is in danger of reversing itself.
D) I am a writer and it is my right in a free society, which ours still is, as far as I can tell, to protest whatever I feel is unjust. I know that half the voting age population of America will probably disagree with me because they believe that a Trump government represents some sort of Great White Hope for them.
Trump The Rainmaker...Gag Me With A SpoonTo me, Donald Trump reminds me of the actor Burt Lancaster in the movie The Rainmaker. In this movie, Burt comes to a drought-stricken town and promises to bring them rain, to get their crops growing again and bring prosperity back to the town.
This, of course, is all a con. But it’s one that is played out by a skillful con artist who knows how to get up in front of an audience and tell them all the things they want to hear in exactly the way they want to hear it.
He fills them with hope, gets what he wants, because it’s all about him in the end, and then just slides out of town leaving the people worse off than they were in the first place.
This, I firmly believe is what is happening in America. And I for one am, in my own way, protesting it.
Readers Always Have A Choice
I will continue until some sanity returns to the United States. But as a reader, you have a choice.
If you are a Trump supporter this stuff might piss you off. But then again, it might just make you think a little more critically about the person you elected. Because in order to vote for him, you most certainly had to overlook an astounding number of character flaws.
If you did not vote for Trump, you can support these posts by liking, adding your voice in a comment and sharing them with your network.
If you don’t give a shit either way, by all means scroll on by. In this way, you’ll simply be doing what about 90% of all people on social media do anyway. No harm. No foul.
My Agenda In A NutshellMy agenda is nothing sinister. I don’t aggressively use social media to find clients, although I have found a few this way. I primarily use it as a mode of expression. Some people read my stuff...a lot of people don’t. Some people are fans, others not so much.
But I’m a writer and this is what we do.
I’m also a Canadian and what I see happening literally 20 miles from my new home in St Catharines distresses me greatly.
And I am a Canadian entrepreneur and I don’t see what’s going on in America right now, and the ripple effect it will have on my country and many others around the world, as anything but genuinely scary.
So…there you go. I’m not going to be devoting a large share of my posting to this issue, but I will continue to support the people in America who believe that this is basically a sort of insanity.
As usual, all comments, shares and likes are welcome and appreciated.

Lisa \ud83d\udc1d Gallagher. You are echoing the sentiments of too many Americans. This would never have been an issue if the DNC hadn't sabotaged Bernie Sanders in favour of Hillary Clinton. The polls all indicated that Bernie had the electoral votes and the popular votes. But you know what...when you shoot yourself in the foot you invariably end up hobbling around for a while. I feel bad for the majority of Americans, like yourself who are worried and justifiably so about their future. It's gonna be a rough four year. The best you can hope for is impeachment but the Republican controlled houses would lose too much face to allow that.

Thanks Paul. I'm hoping that a lot of what we're hearing now is a tempest in a teapot, being kept aboil by the parasites in the media.

Fair enough, Jim. I'm sure you won't be the only one. The voices of the liberal media and left-wing advocacy groups will be deafening. Could be a bumpy road. It wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks . FYI I'm holding out hope as well. I mean what else is there to do? But I'm going to make sure that when he does something genuinely "Trump-like' that he gets called on it.
