Writing About What You Think Is Important.

Writing About What You Think Is Important.

I have always subscribed to the notion embodied in the headline above. To that end, I have been devoting some of my time over the past year to anti-Trump blogging and meme posting and I will continue on into the foreseeable future. Because I think it’s important to make sure that people know what the American people elected to the highest office in their land.

I have two perfectly valid reasons for taking this position and disseminating these memes and posts.

I have always despised everything that the Trump brand, such as it is, stood for. Trump is a nasty piece of work and if you don’t believe me, feel free to consult the endless list of people who have done work for him and were screwed over big time.
I am convinced that a huge number of Americans were conned into believing that Trump was going to somehow make their lives better despite the fact that he never actually told anyone how he was going to do this. They just took it on blind faith.

But what they are finding out now is that his promises were mostly bullshit and he used them to get himself elected. And now he is proceeding to bring the Tea Party to Washington.
There are a lot of people out there who are now having serious doubts about whether they did the right thing voting for Trump. There are also millions of people protesting his election, and the antiquated electoral college system that makes it possible for the candidate with the fewest votes to actually be named the winner.
These people feel, and rightly so in my opinion, that their vote actually counts for nothing, and that the system is, indeed, as Trump complained long and loud, rigged.

Freedom Of Speech...Look Out!

PENCE: You're catching a lot of flak
for having that Breitbart guy in your
inner circle.

TRUMP: From who?

PENCE: A lot of people a talking
about it.

TRUMP: You know you sound a lot
like me.

PENCE: That's disturbing.

TRUMP: Nobody should sound like
me but me.

PENCE: Yes, my Lord. While he may not actually be one, Trump is doing a very good job of being seen as a dictator. He’s attacking and excluding the free press from his post-election process. He’s selecting the most extreme right wing people for his ‘inner circle’. He’s carrying on business as usual and promoting the Trump brand actively to foreign interests. And he is, so far, he is refusing to cut ties with his business, which he is legally obligated to do as president. Instead, he wants his children to run these businesses, thus creating an ongoing conflict of interest.
In short, between many hundreds of lies he spewed during the primary and the election campaigns about his competitors, the absolutely despicable behaviour he regularly demonstrated, the nearly impossible and horrendously expensive measures he proposed regarding immigration, his threats to dismantle a number of existing trade agreements and his complete unwillingness to release his tax returns, he is making a mockery out of the office of president of one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Why Should I Care About This?

A) I am a Canadian and I work for a number of companies who benefit from trade agreements with the US. Therefore I am justifiably worried that having what I consider to be an ignorant, narcissistic, uninformed bigot in the White House will not help these or any other Canadian companies going forward.
B) I have been following US politics since the early 1960s because I grew up in a border town and spent a good deal of my youth in America. I probably know more about US politics than most Americans.
C) I look at the progress the US has made over the past eight years with Barack Obama as president and feel very strongly that a lot of that progress is in danger of reversing itself.
D) I am a writer and it is my right in a free society, which ours still is, as far as I can tell, to protest whatever I feel is unjust. I know that half the voting age population of America will probably disagree with me because they believe that a Trump government represents some sort of Great White Hope for them.

Trump The Rainmaker...Gag Me With A Spoon
To me, Donald Trump reminds me of the actor Burt Lancaster in the movie The Rainmaker. In this movie, Burt comes to a drought-stricken town and promises to bring them rain, to get their crops growing again and bring prosperity back to the town.

This, of course, is all a con. But it’s one that is played out by a skillful con artist who knows how to get up in front of an audience and tell them all the things they want to hear in exactly the way they want to hear it.
He fills them with hope, gets what he wants, because it’s all about him in the end, and then just slides out of town leaving the people worse off than they were in the first place.
This, I firmly believe is what is happening in America. And I for one am, in my own way, protesting it.

Readers Always Have A Choice

I will continue until some sanity returns to the United States. But as a reader, you have a choice.
If you are a Trump supporter this stuff might piss you off. But then again, it might just make you think a little more critically about the person you elected. Because in order to vote for him, you most certainly had to overlook an astounding number of character flaws.
If you did not vote for Trump, you can support these posts by liking, adding your voice in a comment and sharing them with your network.
If you don’t give a shit either way, by all means scroll on by. In this way, you’ll simply be doing what about 90% of all people on social media do anyway. No harm. No foul.

My Agenda In A Nutshell

: oot
WHEN REPUBLICANS STOLE THE ELECTION
IN 2000, DEMOCRATS GOT BEHIND THE
LEADER FOR THE SAKE OF THE COUNTRY.
WE SEE WHERE THAT GOT US!

EXPRESS YOUR RIGHTS
STAND AND FIGHT!My agenda is nothing sinister. I don’t aggressively use social media to find clients, although I have found a few this way. I primarily use it as a mode of expression. Some people read my stuff...a lot of people don’t. Some people are fans, others not so much.
But I’m a writer and this is what we do.
I’m also a Canadian and what I see happening literally 20 miles from my new home in St Catharines distresses me greatly.
And I am a Canadian entrepreneur and I don’t see what’s going on in America right now, and the ripple effect it will have on my country and many others around the world, as anything but genuinely scary.
So…there you go. I’m not going to be devoting a large share of my posting to this issue, but I will continue to support the people in America who believe that this is basically a sort of insanity.

Lisa \ud83d\udc1d Gallagher. You are echoing the sentiments of too many Americans. This would never have been an issue if the DNC hadn't sabotaged Bernie Sanders in favour of Hillary Clinton. The polls all indicated that Bernie had the electoral votes and the popular votes. But you know what...when you shoot yourself in the foot you invariably end up hobbling around for a while. I feel bad for the majority of Americans, like yourself who are worried and justifiably so about their future. It's gonna be a rough four year. The best you can hope for is impeachment but the Republican controlled houses would lose too much face to allow that.

Uggh, just removed 2 comments. Lets just say, I'm praying for the best because I feel less hopeful watching his tweet fests, his lack of self control, the idea that he thinks he's going to be a savior for the US... on the list can go. I'm not and have never been a fan of Trump's, ever. I was never a fan of Hillary's either but for all of us, we voted for what we considered the lesser of 2 evils. I chose Hillary, others chose Trump, many stayed home. Tonight, Kelly Ann Conway stated, "Everyone should be happy that he is OPEN to receive that briefing," referring to the Hacking. Ok, we should be HAPPY??? It's his duty as PEOTUS and eventually POTUS to be present or read briefings daily. And he tweeted tonight, "Chicago murder rate is record setting - 4,331 shooting victims with 762 murders in 2016. If Mayor can't do it he must ask for Federal help!" Ok, what is he referring to.. money to enlarge police force, money for education and more training, OR Military Policing?? Still hoping that things fall into place once he takes office even though I feel very discouraged right now, very. Time will tell..............

I am not a fan of Hillary Clintons but I voted for her. Many people chose the lesser of 2 evils from what they said, and there you have those who voted for Trump as well. I also believe from what I've read and heard, many disenfranchised Bernie supporters voted for Trump out of spite or stayed home. Then there are those who voted for him because they felt he would shake up Washington and bring in people who were also anti-establishment. He chastised Hillary during the debates by saying she would bring in people from Wall Street and Goldman Sachs, her buddies. He did exactly what he accused her of doing. I have followed Trump for years, long before this election and I always felt he was a self-serving, mean hearted man who's main objective is DJT. It's all about DJT. So many more red flags going up since he was elected and it scares me. I have never in my life felt this way over an election of a new President. I have also voted for who I feel will do the best job, I don't vote based on party. His twitter obsession is not only embarrassing but dangerous depending on what he tweets! I could go on but I won't. I promised I would keep my mouth shut on Social media (beBee in particular) but it's very hard when he's the most controversial figure I've ever seen elected to the highest office in our land. People should take him at his word because he's never been known to back down or off. He's a loose canon. I can only pray for the US and the rest of the world with hopes that I may eat crow after he's elected. I'd be happy to admit I was wrong about him as a POTUS.

Thanks Paul. I'm hoping that a lot of what we're hearing now is a tempest in a teapot, being kept aboil by the parasites in the media.

Jim Murray response.I love America and have loved it even more over the last 8 years with a benevolent, intelligent and altogether wonderful man at the helm. One can only hope that the in coming administration takes at least a leaf or two from Obama's book. There is no place for hate in this already fragile world. Also perhaps bunk beds in the basement might be a wise decision you could have a few guests. then again there is Bali. Most here don't give two hoots about that new guy in the White House!

Fair enough, Jim. I'm sure you won't be the only one. The voices of the liberal media and left-wing advocacy groups will be deafening. Could be a bumpy road. It wouldn't surprise me.

I'm thinking of developing a new drinking game. It'll be fashioned after the one where everyone takes a drink every time someone says "Hi, Bob" on the "Bob Newhart Show." Now, who's name shall I use?

Thanks . FYI I'm holding out hope as well. I mean what else is there to do? But I'm going to make sure that when he does something genuinely "Trump-like' that he gets called on it.

Jim, I commend your for being so outspoken about the incoming Trump Administration. Everyone should feel free to voice their views and opinions about this contentious and divisive election. After all, that's what freedom of speech is all about and what makes America great. While I neither voted for nor supported the Trump candidacy, I'm still holding out some hope for the USA that his many detractors are proven wrong -- that is, for the sake and well being of America. My own view at this time is in line with President Obama and Hillary, both of whom asked Americans to keep an "open mind" and give the President-elect a fair "chance" to lead and govern. Finally, I think this election result has less to do with support for Mr. Trump, and more to do with 1) distrust and disgust with Hillary for various reasons, and 2) More importantly, voters who are fed up and want to lob a metaphorical grenade at the Washington political establishment to shake up the status quo. Regardless, I hope you will join me in hoping and praying the for best. I think President Trump will neither be as horrendous as his detractors allege, not as great as supporters claim. But only time will tell. Therefore, please keep that basement corner reserved for me just in case I need to skip town if your predictions are correct. Thanks, Jim!
