Team & Job Overview

Discipline Summary

  • Provides insurance to Canadian banks against foreign bank credit risk as it relates to activities in the trade finance space;
  • Assesses risk and structures standard and nonstandard transactions;
  • Undertakes credit and/or financial analyses and identifies and evaluates a wide range of credit and noncredit risks, mitigants and the suitability of customers and counter parties, ensuring alignment with EDC guidelines, standards and risk appetite;
  • Establishes appropriate transaction pricing, terms and conditions;
  • Provides ongoing customer service throughout the transaction process that meet the needs of Canadian financial institutions while balancing the Corporation's requirements;
  • Conducts annual surveillance reviews on all rated banks;
  • Monitors key marketspecific risk events and recommends pricing and risk appetite adjustments as appropriate, on an ongoing basis;
  • Works with business development teams and other stakeholders to identify, develop and respond to new business opportunities;
  • Participates in continuous improvement and product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Displays strong underwriting expertise in customizing, structuring, and in the formulation of appropriate policy coverage which is reflective of risk;
  • Manages standard and nonstandard transactions within a geographic portfolio of foreign bank counterparties in support of both Insurance and Financing business teams as well as credit assessments on foreign banks for FinDev transactions;
  • Recommends and approves policy underwriting transactions within policies, guidelines and assigned delegation of authority;
  • Recommends pricing exceptions and formulates pricing strategies;
  • Contributes ideas to new product development, enhancements, and process improvements;
  • Assesses risk, structures and delivers of "out of the box" solutions including tailored pricing based on internal references and model, industry knowledge and relevant capital market benchmarks (i.e. bond spreads, credit default swaps, credit ratings);
  • Screens complex and unique opportunities and determines eligibility for consideration of various products and designs solutions;
  • Promotes innovation and actively leads initiatives to introduce new underwriting approaches and contributes ideas to new product development, enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.

Screening Criteria

  • Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or in a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years (level 15) or 5 years (level 16) of experience in insurance underwriting or in financial services
  • Working/advanced knowledge of insurance underwriting principles and practices

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
  • Read and communicate in Spanish
  • Strong excel skills
  • MBA and CA, CFA, CMA or CGA designation
  • Solid knowledge of international business practices and international trade

Salary Range
Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from:

  • Level 15: $62,336
  • $83,11
  • Level 16: $71,063
  • $94,752

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role may be performed from EDC's headquarters in Ottawa, or from community hubs in Toronto or Montreal.
