    Job Duties
  • This position will provide instruction to Justice Studies program students. The incumbent will work as part of an instructional team to ensure cohesive delivery of the program, which is designed to help individuals gain the knowledge and skills required to enter the field of law enforcement.
  • Provide program academic leadership and ensure an effective environment for students through the planning, preparation, and delivery of curriculum.
  • Define and evaluate learning outcomes, develop appropriate teaching and learning strategies, and develop/select teaching resources.
  • Maintain ongoing working and consultative relationships with the appropriate staff in the field of law enforcement to facilitate and ensure potential recruitment opportunities to students
  • Develop evaluation tools, facilitate practical skill evaluations, and evaluate and record student progress
  • Ensure an effective environment for students through the design and revision of program learning materials.
  • Manage the learning environment and provide advice to students.
  • Participate in meetings, committee work, and Aboriginal cultural events, etc. as required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  • 1. University degree in Sociology, Criminology, Justice Studies, or related education in the field of criminal justice.
  • Minimum of five years recent and relevant experience as a correctional officer in a federal and/or provincial correctional adult institution or a member of a municipal or RCMP police service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the philosophy of corrections and/or policing from both an historical and current perspective.
  • Working knowledge of current trends and research in the field of law enforcement.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and strong decision making and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral and written) and the ability to work with people from equity groups.
  • Able to obtain a clear criminal record check and full satisfactory security clearances.
  • Computer skills including competence with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
  • Demonstrates valuing diversity.
