    The first of its kind in Canada, FNHA works as a health-and-wellness partner with BC First Nations to support self-determination and decision-making to improve health outcomes.

    *Title:
    • Registered Nurse (RN), Primary Care

    *Contract:
    • This position is a 2-year term with the FNHA. When the term position ends with the FNHA, it is intended that this position will be offered as a permanent role with the es zúmin' Primary Care Clinic

    *Location:
    • Mount Currie, BC, with frequent travel to the Southern Stl'atl'imx communities, which are up to 3 hours away by road.- FNHA is able to financially support relocation to Mount Currie, BCBargaining Unit:

    _\*The First Nations-led Primary Care Initiative (FNPCI) aims to improve access to primary health-care services for First Nations people across BC in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home.

    The FNPCI is part of the province's primary care strategy, which is integrating team-based care in communities throughout B.C.

    and changing the way primary care is delivered with the creation of primary care networks in partnership with the Regional Health Authorities.

    In order to meet the health and wellness needs of First Nations people, it is very important that primary care is culturally safe and culturally informed where Indigenous ways of knowing and being are woven into services.

    One of the main objectives of the FNPCI is to develop new First Nations Primary Health Care Centres in rural and urban locations across the province.

    The centres will provide access to culturally safe, quality primary health care services for First Nations people and their families.

    The aim is for clients to feel safe, welcomed, valued, respected and heard when they access care services at one of these centres.

    *The es zúmin' Primary Care Centre, is a BC First Nations-led Primary Care initiative in the FNHA Southern Stl'atl'imx sub-region, that aims to improve access to primary health care services and traditional wellness services for First Nations people in a way that is culturally safe and closer to home. This sub-region includes five First Nations communities: the Líl?wat, N'Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin and Xa'xtsa (Douglas) Nations.
    *As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will be a part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team that provides trauma-informed primary care services, fosters a culturally safe and racism-free environment, and promotes, maintains, and restores client health. You'll be caring for patients at all stages of life, demonstrating cultural humility, and acknowledging your clients' values, cultural beliefs, and practices in your care. You'll also be expected to travel on a weekly basis to different sites to be available for appointments within the community.

    You will also be expected to provide care and service that meets the standards for Registered Nurses within the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and working within the scope of practice for Registered Nurses as determined by relevant legislation.

    *Conducting holistic patient assessments incorporating health histories, and physical evaluations, to address client's primary health concerns with cultural humility, respect, and understanding.

    • Monitoring client health, documenting changes and interventions, and where appropriate, ordering diagnostic tests and administering treatments within the scope of practice.
    • Collaborating with clients, families, and inter-professional teams to develop, implement, and evaluate culturally sensitive care plans that emphasize self-management and improved quality of life.
    • Completion of a recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
    *Current valid driving license

    • Certifications in BCCDC Immunization, STI Certified Practice, Contraceptive Management, Remote nursing are assets, as well as a willingness to take advanced practice certifications.
    *A minimum of 3 years of recent related experience in primary care, public health, community and/or chronic disease care.

    • Experience working with and delivering health services to First Nations clients, integrating holistic Indigenous approaches with Western approaches
    • Training in anti-Indigenous racism response and cultural safety and humility
    *Strong knowledge of cultural safety, trauma-informed care, and First Nations cultural principles, applying a two-eyed seeing approach to balance western and Traditional Indigenous worldviews in practice

    • Comprehensive understanding of health disparities, determinants of health, and primary care principles, along with a deep grasp of nursing frameworks and practices.
    • Experience in fostering inclusive environments that promote wellness and personal excellence
    • Familiarity with the unique challenges of rural and remote communities.

    *Municipal Pension plan with an employer contribution of 9.3 weeks' vacation, which increases with service to 4 weeks, sick leave credits, plus 1 personal day, 1 volunteer day, and 14 holidays including National Indigenous People's Day and National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

    The Pay Range is the minimum (Step 1) and maximum (highest Step) annual base salary based on full time equivalent hours.

    As a health and wellness organization, the FNHA has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021.

    We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at First Nations Health Authority. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

    If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.
