Description

All applicants must be available to start work on short notice and intend on returning to school at the end of season.


Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Systems Services, the Technical Assistant Summer Student assists in duties that are both technical and administrative in nature and designed to help improving the performance of building automation systems.

The Technical Assistant Summer Student will also assist with inventory of equipment and cataloging of safety records.


As the _Technical Assistant Student_
_,_ **you will:

  • Assist the Building System technicians / technologists by maintenance and repair of computerized Building Monitoring and Automation Equipment used to control, operate and monitor HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, carbon monoxide detection systems, emergency generation systems, energy management systems, etc. for the building inventory under the jurisdiction of Municipal Accommodations.
  • Assist in cataloging equipment inventory.
  • Update and catalog safety documentation.
  • Update and organize technical drawings and reference materials.
  • Develop and document procedures and instructions related to building operations.
  • Perform other related duties compatible with the classification and written policies and regulations of the Department.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Enrolment in a degree and or diploma program in one of the following areas: Electrical, Mechanical Engineering/IEEQ; Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Technologies is desired.
  • Experience performing administrative tasks including but limited to records keeping and inventory.
  • Experience with programming DDC or PLC controllers is desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCad, MatLab or equivalent software programs.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with fellow coworkers within a team environment including, contractors, consultants and customers.
  • Verbal communication skills with the ability effectively communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
  • Written communication skills with the ability to prepare written reports.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver's notice in force document upon request.
  • The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide CSA approved personal protective safety boots (six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense.
