Objective:


The objective of the General English Instructor is to provide comprehensive and engaging English language instruction to students of varying proficiency levels.

This role aims to cultivate language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

By employing effective teaching methodologies and leveraging both traditional and modern educational resources, the instructor endeavors to empower students with the language proficiency necessary for their academic, professional, and personal growth.


Job Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

Create and update course materials, lesson plans, and educational resources for teaching English language skills encompassing reading, writing, listening, and speaking.


Instruction and Delivery:

Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to students' language proficiency levels, utilizing diverse teaching methods and materials to enhance learning experiences.


Language Skills Development:
Focus on developing grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, and fluency in English through various exercises, activities, and discussions.

Assessment and Evaluation:
Design and administer assessments, quizzes, and examinations to evaluate students' language proficiency, providing constructive feedback and progress reports.

Individualized Support:
Offer personalized guidance, tutoring, and additional support to students who require assistance in specific areas of language learning.

Cultural Context Integration:
Incorporate cultural nuances, idiomatic expressions, and socio-cultural elements into language instruction to provide a well-rounded learning experience.

Technological Integration:
Utilize educational technology, online resources, and multimedia tools to supplement traditional teaching methods and enhance engagement.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

Collaborate with fellow instructors, attend workshops, and engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated with effective teaching methodologies and trends in language instruction.


Qualifications:

Education:
Typically requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

Teaching certifications such as TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) can be advantageous.


Teaching Experience:
Previous experience in teaching English as a second language (ESL) or teaching English to non-native speakers is preferred.

Language Proficiency:
Native or near-native proficiency in English, with a deep understanding of English grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.

Pedagogical Skills:
Strong understanding of language teaching methodologies, lesson planning, and differentiated instruction to accommodate various learning styles and levels.

Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex language concepts and provide feedback to students.

Patience and Empathy:

Display patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse groups of learners, understanding their unique challenges and needs.


Adaptability:

Ability to adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the needs of students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.


Salary:
$25.00-$28.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Vancouver, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

- teaching: 1 year (preferred)
