Location: Conestoga College - Doon Campus, The Venue Restaurant & Bar


Time Requirement: 40 hours per week (some evenings and weekends may be required)

Hourly Wage:
$20.50


POSITION OVERVIEW


The Front-of-House Lead is responsible for ensuring a positive and informed experience for guests while selling and serving food and beverages at The Venue Restaurant & Bar.

In the course of this work, the Front-of-House Lead will be required to use a cash register, dishwasher, and other bar equipment.

Occasionally, restocking and storing inventory will also be necessary.


In carrying out the duties of this position, a great deal of autonomy is exercised with final overview by the Food Services Supervisor.

It is also important that the Front-of-House Lead works extremely closely with the Food Services Supervisor to ensure that they are up to date on the basic overall operations of The Venue Restaurant & Bar.

In all activities, it is crucial that the Front-of-House Lead recognizes that service to students and guests is a top priority.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General

  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of the products and pricing of the Venue's beverages
  • Take orders and serve guests in accordance with CSSI's guidelines for excellent customer service
  • Prepare alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages in accordance with the provided specifications/recipes
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly to guests by first ensuring that they have proper identification and have
    not exceeded the inhouse drink limit
  • Operate cash register to accept various types of tender from guests, provide proper change to guests, balance cash drawer and receipts, and document discrepancies
  • Count and handle cash with accuracy
  • Count till before every shift to ensure it contains the correct starting float amount
  • Complete opening and closing procedures for the bar, including financial reconciliations, inventory checks, and bartender checklist
  • Track inventory and restock food/drink items as needed to ensure demand is met and waste is minimized
  • Restock beer fridges and change kegs when needed
  • Manage time and priorities to ensure all food/drink orders are completed on time
  • Operate and clean/maintain bar equipment and tools
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure the health & safety of guests and coworkers at all times; clean and sanitize all work areas and frequently touched surfaces before and after every use
  • Work as a team with fellow Food Services staff
Other General Duties

  • Work in accordance with corporate bylaws, policies and procedures, particularly to the CSSI Mission Statement
  • Practice professionalism and impartiality when handling sensitive personal information
  • Maintain confidentiality for business practices
  • Strict adherence to Health & Safety laws, policies, and procedures
  • Adhere to CSSI's work attire standards
  • Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy, and confidentiality are critical
  • Attend meetings and committees when required
  • Work with members of the College to build strong relationships between CSSI and Conestoga College
  • Mandatory attendance at monthly staff meetings and CSSIrelated training days
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands

This position may spend long periods of time standing and walking. Lifting of supplies and materials up to 50lbs may also be required from time to time.

Environmental Conditions


This position performs work primarily in an enclosed food preparation area and is faced with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

Work is also required with and near hazardous kitchen equipment, including (but not limited to) a cooking range and sharp objects.

Some work may be required after regular hours and on weekends.

Sensory Demands

This position may require long periods of work in a warm and busy environment.

Mental Demands


This position is expected to maintain a consistent sense of urgency while completing multiple competing priorities within short timeframes, which can cause significant stress.

The incumbent also deals with a wide variety of people on various issues.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled in a fulltime program at Conestoga College and be a feepaying student
  • Must be available to work up to 40 hours per week on days, evenings, and weekends as required
  • Must have and show proof of Smart Serve Certification
  • Must be 19 years of age or older
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs as required on a semiregular basis
  • Deep understanding of best practices in cooking and food preparation
  • Understanding of CSSI's food services
  • Comprehension of instructions and information relating to CSSI's food services
  • Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Familiarity with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario
  • Highly organized and skilled time management
