Sessional Nursing Instructors, Faculty of Nursing (Spring 2023)


The University of Calgary, Faculty of Nursing is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach undergraduate level courses for the Spring 2023.


Term as follows:

Spring Semester 2023

Term 7 -
NURS 589 (Palliative Care)

We are seeking applicants with nursing practice in the palliative care, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience. Practice education takes place both on and off campus. Scheduling varies and may include a combination of days and evening shifts, Monday through Friday. The successful applicants are required to be available during that entire period(s).


Teaching Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate low to highfidelity simulation activities within the Clinical Simulation Learning Centre
  • Work effectively with small groups of students oncampus or in off campus settings in acute care, chronic care, longterm care or community
  • Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance
  • Participate in student assessment and evaluations on and off campus
  • Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice

Qualifications:


Applied Experience:


  • Current practice experience related to semester focus
  • Broad experience across a variety of areas
  • Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students

Enhanced Abilities:


  • Application of adult teaching/learning principles
  • Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
  • Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
  • Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings
