- Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC)
- Two years' recent, related clinical experience in community nutrition, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Knowledge of nutrition theory and practice within a patient- and family-centered model of care
- Knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia
- Knowledge of the determinants of health, health promotion, and chronic disease management principles and practices
- Knowledge of enteral nutrition
- Working knowledge of community health agencies and available community resources
- Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care
- Able to conduct relevant assessments per established standards of practice
- Able to assess patient responses to care plans, and to respond appropriately
- Able to plan, deliver, and evaluate health education for individuals and groups
- Able to effectively teach, consult, and empower patients to assume control over their health
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Able to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, caregivers, team members, and community partners
- Able to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required, and to support seamless transition in care
- Able to adjust to new or unexpected events, problem solve, set priorities, and manage conflict
- Able to work in a team-based model of care
- Able to independently plan, organize, and prioritize work
- Able to provide effective services in a variety of community settings and with diverse populations
- Able to promote culturally safe care for Indigenous peoples

Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is a not-for-profit organization located in the Downtown Eastside community for over 30 years. VAHS programs are designed by and for urban Aboriginal people to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Our services include a Primary Care Clinic, a Dental Clinic, a cultural team of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous Early Years programs.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Within the context of a team-based model of care, the Dietitian provides nutrition care through health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, support, and rehabilitation to enable patients to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes. The Dietitian cares for patients who are in need of nutrition support related but not limited to: chronic disease; weight management; gastro-intestinal health; malnutrition; food allergies; and lifestyle management. The Dietitian assists patients in setting goals and supporting their nutritional and overall wellness through the provision of individual and/or group counselling.
In collaboration with patients and an interdisciplinary Primary Care team, the Dietitian provides continuity of care by liaising with team members, coordinating ongoing care (internal and external), supporting transitions, and navigating services. The Dietitian practices in accordance with established standards of professional practice, as outlined by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia as well as within VAHS's vision, values, policies, standards, and decision support tools.
