MATERIAL HANDLER, EXPLOSIVES

***: Reporting to the Drill and Blast Manager, the Material Handler, Explosives is responsible to receive and transport explosives from the supplier to storage magazines or jobsites in a safe and efficient manner. The Material Handler will maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products. This role will require travel to specific project locations and a flexible working schedule.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • Transport explosive and nonexplosive materials to and from various project locations
  • Dispose of bulk explosives, scrap powders, propellants or other explosives material through a burn or demolition operation
  • Perform routine maintenance of storage magazines and powder trucks
  • Operate material handling equipment to load and offload freight
  • Prepare accurate shipping documents and Dangerous Goods Declarations for both hazardous and nonhazardous shipments
  • Schedule trucks for pick up and deliveries of dangerous goods
  • Using an inventory tracking system, maintain an accurate inventory of magazines, explosive and nonexplosive products
  • Monitor the usage of materials and products and prepare purchase orders as necessary
  • Ensure that all regulations, both federally and provincially, are adhered to

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Minimum 2+ years of related explosives industry work is preferred
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification or the ability to obtain is required
  • A valid Class 3 Drivers License will be required
  • A completion of a criminal record check will be required
  • Must be able to pass a preemployment alcohol and drug test
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including repetitive tasks and lifting heavy loads
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Critical thinking and effective decisionmaking skills are required
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail is required
  • Ensure safety is always a top priority
