***: Reporting to the Drill and Blast Manager, the Material Handler, Explosives is responsible to receive and transport explosives from the supplier to storage magazines or jobsites in a safe and efficient manner. The Material Handler will maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products. This role will require travel to specific project locations and a flexible working schedule.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Transport explosive and nonexplosive materials to and from various project locations
Dispose of bulk explosives, scrap powders, propellants or other explosives material through a burn or demolition operation
Perform routine maintenance of storage magazines and powder trucks
Operate material handling equipment to load and offload freight
Prepare accurate shipping documents and Dangerous Goods Declarations for both hazardous and nonhazardous shipments
Schedule trucks for pick up and deliveries of dangerous goods
Using an inventory tracking system, maintain an accurate inventory of magazines, explosive and nonexplosive products
Monitor the usage of materials and products and prepare purchase orders as necessary
Ensure that all regulations, both federally and provincially, are adhered to

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum 2+ years of related explosives industry work is preferred
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is required
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification or the ability to obtain is required
A valid Class 3 Drivers License will be required
A completion of a criminal record check will be required
Must be able to pass a preemployment alcohol and drug test
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including repetitive tasks and lifting heavy loads
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Critical thinking and effective decisionmaking skills are required
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Strong accuracy and attention to detail is required
Ensure safety is always a top priority
