A hands-on role helping children and youth in your community


The
Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.C.

The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.


The
Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary specialized assessment and treatment services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities.

The Maples population consists of youth in British Columbia with serious emotional, psychological, behavioral and psychiatric illness, ages 12 to 17.


An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other professionals and community agencies, you provide a range of mental health services to youth 12 to 17 and their families, when the youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioral or psychiatric illness.

The
Psychiatric Social Worker provides direct clinical services such as assessment and treatment for youth and their families.

Consulting with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs, you understand the importance of being involved in community education, development, and coordination.

You build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in the community to ensure continuity of care and support for youth and families.


Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

Job Requirements:


  • Masters' in Social Work (preferred Clinical Specialization), Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level, or equivalent.

NOTE:

If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Minimum of one (1) year fulltime equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Masters' in Social Work.
  • Two (2) years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Applicants who selfidentify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with indigenous children, families and communities.

About this Position:

An eligibility list may be established for future full-time and part-time permanent and/or temporary vacancies.
Currently, we have one (1) temporary opportunity until February 2024. A permanent appointment may result from this temporary appointment.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
