What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • provide accurate and timely research and analysis to support policy and program development
- analyze and evaluate policy/program information and data, identify issues and trends, and prepare analytical and statistical reports for review
- collaborate with other branches/ministries to discuss research, support program development and implementation, and respond to inquiries
- prepare draft analyses and policy/program reports, such as options papers, briefing notes, House Book notes, contentious issues reports, meeting notes and briefing materials for use by senior management
- prepare draft correspondence in response to public inquiries regarding legislation, regulations, policies and proposed policies and initiatives


How do I qualify?:


Policy and Program Development Knowledge:


  • You know program and policy development principles and government decisionmaking accountability processes
  • You can conduct jurisdictional consultations and scans to gather data, analyse responses, and prepare reports
  • You can work independently, manage competing deadlines and priorities, and adapt to change quickly

Analytical and Research Skills:


  • You can conduct research and analyze several sources of data, prepare basic statistical analyses, and summarize research findings
  • You can develop draft options, trend, and impact analyses regarding programs and policies
  • You can identify stakeholder issues, examine options and provide recommendations

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:


  • You have written communication skills to prepare accurate, timely, and complete reports, analyses, briefing notes and policy documents for cabinet submissions, as well as a range of communications materials
  • You have presentation skills to effectively communicate information to a variety of stakeholders and to convey research findings to senior staff
  • You have relationship management skills to foster collaborative working engagements with a variety of partners and stakeholders and many levels
  • You have consultation skills to gather and exchange information, discuss issues and gain support from other branches/ministries/stakeholders on policy/program issues
  • You demonstrate political acuity, interpersonal and diplomatic skills to respond with discretion to external information requests and liaise with stakeholders
  • You have experience using common computer software such as MSOffice (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Outlook, and the internet
