Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join the
Workforce Development Program team. Are you ready to be our

ABOUT THE ROLE
Employment Services provides an integrated approach to assist participants entering or re-entering the workforce.

The Employment Support Worker uses a client centered, strengths-based model that is rooted in harm reduction to provide participants with employment supports including intake, system navigation, employment counseling, resume writing, supported job searches, computer literacy, referrals to appropriate services, and other employment supports as required.

1-2 years experience, education requirements or equitable experience in the field and are passionate about making a difference, this is the role for you.





NOTE:
The position is a temporary, full-time contract (37.5 hours a week) until April 30th, 2024.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide employment counselling, job search assistance, and follow up to support to individuals who access the Workforce Development Program
  • Support participants to develop and achieve their employment goals by accessing appropriate internal programs or assist in referring to other external resources
  • Identify areas where participants would benefit from additional supports, system navigation, access necessary services, resources and government benefits for which they are eligible
  • Support participants to build trust relationships between employers and coworkers
  • Monitor and assist intake process for new individuals who would like to access the program
  • Maintain accurate electronic case notes, computer records, program information, and critical incident reports in a timely fashion
  • Maintain a current and accurate participant file for each client.
  • Provide latest program information & updated statistics and any other reports as required
  • Identifying program gaps and coming up with solutions for the purpose of building program capacity
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary Degree or Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of oneyear relevant employment experience
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness, and Edmonton's urban core
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural Resources, Ceremonies and Protocols is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result oriented, good time management, strong organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Working Conditions

  • Working closely with participants who are experiencing complex life situations
  • Hours of work will vary based on the need of the community
  • Operation of personal vehicle with required insurance
