Reporting to the AVP, Retail Advice & Solutions Reporting & Controls, this role is accountable for all aspects of the financial reporting processes related to Sun Life Financial Investments Inc.
This role will encompass the accounting and reporting for two entities regulated by the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) as well as the analytical processes involved in reporting key metrics to management and the respective Boards.
This role will serve as the key point of contact to both external auditors and regulators and requires collaboration with key partners across various internal teams.
This role will have direct reports to support this function and requires an advanced level of analytical insight and ingenuity.
What you'll be doing
- Provide expertise and leadership on the finance aspects of standing up a new CIRO regulated securities dealer and collaborating with colleagues across the other key disciplines
- Lead and develop financial professionals which are your direct reports with the goal of increasing talent and providing opportunities to grow and acquire additional skill sets
- Collaborate effectively with various business areas to support the delivery of financial and management reporting, presentations, and analytics to senior management, regulators and the subsidiary Boards of Directors
- Contribute innovative ideas and build constructive and effective finance processes for the new subsidiary as a member of the finance project team
- Manage relationships with external audit, regulators, and internal auditors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial information and related support
- Lead and manage a robust and effective control environment to ensure appropriate controls are in place over financial reporting
- Provide leadership and support for projects and initiatives
- Communicate effectively with senior management and ensure that issues are raised and addressed in a timely manner
- Champion and support creative solutions that focus on continuous improvement
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience working for a mutual fund or a securities dealer (CIRO regulated entity)
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with 7+ years of experience
- The ability to collaborate and navigate through complex business/finance issues to achieve sustainable resolutions
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple accountabilities with mínimal direction and make decisions requiring innovative thinking
- Excellent communication and organization skills with a strong attention to detail
- Proven experience in developing strong working relationships with business partners and stakeholders and ability to interact with all levels in the organization
