RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Commercialization Team Manager, the Business Development Lead will be responsible for:


  • Business Development responsibilities:
  • Support the innovation process across the Invention, Commercialization and Adoption teams, including intellectual property assessment, market research, competitive analysis, business model development, identify and evaluate potential commercial opportunities arising from innovative healthcare technologies, products, or services developed within the hospital or via external startups and companies.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and external partners to assess the market potential of healthcare innovations and develop strategies for commercialization.
  • Track and report key performance indicators related to innovation activities, including deal flow, revenue generation, and impact metrics.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Health Innovation Program through active participation in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and crossfunctional collaborations.
  • Administrative responsibilities:
  • Coordinating meetings with prospective and partner companies, maintaining calendars, implementing, and maintaining the CRM (customer relationship management) and performance measurement systems, assisting with the preparation of presentations, proposals, and other materials as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, life sciences, engineering, or related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in business development, technology transfer, or commercialization within the healthcare or life sciences sector.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess market trends, conduct financial analysis, and evaluate business opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in customer facing roles with engagements around user interviews, requirement gathering, gap analysis, and presenting a business value proposition for the proposed solutions.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law, licensing agreements, and regulatory requirements relevant to healthcare innovation.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for driving positive change in healthcare through innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Energetic, selfmotivated, and results oriented.
  • A welldefined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Experience using computer systems and software such as Microsoft Office 365 suite, Google docs, sheets, slides.

Assets:

  • Familiarity with scientific and medical terminology.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or health research environment.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility to work remotely in a hybrid work model that would include both remote work and onsite work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Eligible to work in Canada;
  • Compliance with CHEO RI's Universal COVID19 Vaccination Policy; and
  • Police Record Check.
