Responsibilities:


We are looking for a bi-lingual (English and French) law student to be a Research Assistant (RA) for a project on technology facilitated sexual violence among young people in Quebec.

The RA will work up to 8 hours per week with a vibrant team on a SSHRC funded project titled _Digitally Informed Youth (DIY): Digital Safety.

_The project runs until April 2027, and if the student is a good fit, there is the opportunity to renew the contract.

The RA will primarily be working in French. They will have two primary responsibilities.

  • The RA will be involved in recruiting, coordinating, managing, and conducting focus groups about technologyfacilitated sexual violence with young people ages 1318 in Quebec (most likely in Montreal). As such, while the RA does not have to live in Quebec, they must be willing to travel to Quebec for fieldwork.
  • The RA will assist in conducting legal and policy analysis related to technology facilitated sexual violence (in French and/or English). As such, we are looking to recruit a law student, ideally an upper year law student or graduate student.

Qualifications

Education:


  • Registered in a law program (preference for upper year student or graduate student)

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:


  • Bilingual fluency in French and English
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn about, conducting focus groups with young people
  • Ability to conduct legal and policy analysis in French and English
  • Outstanding emotional intelligence and ability to talk about sensitive topics with care
  • Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders (e.g., research team, charities, young people)
  • Selfmotivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of feminist theories and methodologies such as gender and intersectionality, genderbased sexual violence, critical race theory, disability, and more.
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Previous experience working with young people, particularly gender, sexual, or racially diverse groups would be an asset
