The Organization
The Opportunity
Key Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Recruitment activities, including:
- Creating job postings, interview guides, and job descriptions.
- Posting job advertisements.
- Conducting prescreens, interviews, and reference checks.
- Collaborate with managers throughout the hiring process and advise on policies, procedures, and best courses of action.
- Assist with onboarding, including preparing new hire packages, completing new hire documents & checklists, and conducting HR Orientations.
- Assist with offboarding.
- Maintain accurate, uptodate, and complete personnel records.
- Collaborate with Finance and Corporate Services departments to advise on employee changes, as necessary.
- Draft memoranda, correspondence, and other employment documentation.
- Assist with employee engagement activities.
- Maintain human resources information and related records systems in compliance with applicable legislation.
- Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, clients/customers, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An indepth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Exceptional organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Flexible and adaptable to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong knowledge of applicable employment legislation, and the ability to read and interpret legislation.
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
Education and Experience
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Human Resources Management, Business Administration with an HR major, or a related Bachelor with a Human Resources major is required.
New graduates or soon to be graduates are welcome to apply.
- Please note, applicants with no Human Resources education will not be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of customer service experience is an asset.
- Minimum 1 year of administration experience is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Position will be based at the Métis Nation of Alberta's Provincial Head Office in Edmonton, Alberta.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends for events.
- Ability to travel throughout AB, on occasion.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license.
