JOB SUMMARY:


We have an immediate opening for a Research Technician in our lab, which is focusing on _in vivo_ gene manipulations esp.

using CIRSPR/Cas9 editing to delineate pathogenic mutations in various cancers and immune diseases.


The applicant would be responsible to provide specialized technical service including mouse colony management and animal experimentation and some tissue culture procedures such as virus production and concentration as well as Molecular Biology techniques such as basic cloning steps and qRT-PCR.

The Technician would be responsible for his/ her work and assist the investigator and trainees in the conduction of research and mouse procedures.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for basic animal husbandry duties for laboratory mice and responsible for their overall health and welfare. A variety of animal health care duties are required such as general husbandry including cage changing, health checks on all animals and identifying changes in animal health or deviations in normal behavior, plug checks, monitoring of for tumor growth. Working with a specialized colony management database and improving SOPs.
  • Conducts research experiments within the group and may have specialized expertise or knowledge in mouse colony management and experimentation.
  • Generate and maintain cell cultures for generation as well as production of hightitter viral preparations.
  • Performing ear tagging and genotyping.
  • Basic cloning steps.
  • Experience with mouse survival surgeries such as xenograft injections, tail vein injections, lung inhalations, ultrasoundguided injection, ultrasoundassisted embryo staging desirable.
  • Experience with tissue harvesting desirable.
  • Exercises considerable independent judgment, initiative and decision making in consultation with investigator to resolve matters relating to interpretation of test results, modification of techniques and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's with experience in related specialized area, Master's Degree would be considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have 2 or more years experience in a research setting with proven technical and surgical abilities with rodents. Experience in mouse handling and mouse experimentation including survival surgeries would be ideal

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard software (e.g. LIMS, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance record
