Your opportunity:


The Division of Comparative Medicine administers the animal care program for the Faculty of Medicine and ensures the DCM training program, in conjunction with the UofT Animal User Training Committee, is in compliance with provincial regulations, national standards and guidelines and institutional policies.

Its mission is to provide an excellent animal care program built on professional dedication to animal welfare and to support the research endeavor by serving as an important resource of in-vivo expertise and best practices.


The Technical Training Coordinator key responsibilities include; coordinating, training and proving competency assessments for animal related training to all levels of animal user personnel, including students and faculty, on a range of topics such as animal handling, anesthesia, and surgery.

In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for contributing to the maintenance/revision of training content, maintaining and updating the training database, and delivering reports on training metrics.

You will have the opportunity to utilize your communication skills and attention to detail to ensure compliance with animal handling and lab safety procedures and standards.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Overseeing daytoday operational needs for one or more labs/workshops
  • Performing highly complex animal lab techniques
  • Providing formal jobrelated training on a range of topics including but not limited to; animal handling, anesthesia, surgery, chemicals, and biohazard agents
  • Drafting and editing detailed training content and standard operating procedures
  • Assessing and determining sustainability benchmarks and metrics
  • Developing and maintaining quality control procedures
  • Providing safety training and ensuring compliance to lab safety procedures and standards

Essential Qualifications:


  • College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience overseeing daytoday operational needs for laboratories and workshops
  • Demonstrated experience performing highly complex animal lab techniques
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, editing, and delivering formal jobrelated training to a variety of personnel on a range of topics including but not limited to; animal handling, anesthesia, surgery, chemicals, and biohazard agents
  • Experience providing safety training and ensuring compliance to lab safety procedures and standards
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Must be a solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written English communication skills
  • Must have good judgment, initiative, flexibility and attention to detail
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated judgement, tact and discretion
