At this time, the

Halifax Port Authority ("HPA") requires a


Manager, Sustainability
This position reports to the Vice-President, Strategy & Transformation and has no direct reports.


Plus:

  • Environmental experience in environmental compliance and due diligence is required. The role involves managing regulated materials and understanding federal storage tank regulations, compliance auditing, environmental emergency response, civil construction, environmental permitting, management systems, capital projects and industrial operations. Experience in these areas is an asset.


  • Sustainability

  • Progressive experience in executing corporate sustainability initiatives. Strong understanding of emissions reporting (greenhouse gas protocol), climate change adaptation and mitigation techniques, and Net Zero Emissions forecasting. Strong experience in sustainability management, reporting and assurance frameworks.
  • Consultation and Engagement experience building relationships and consulting with Indigenous communities. Familiarity with the Impact Assessment Act.
  • Project Management strong project management skills and experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
The Manager, Sustainability will oversee all sustainability activities at HPA.

Through strong project management and relationship building you will help develop a clear plan for existing projects and play a key role in driving HPA's priorities in these areas.

Sustainability at Halifax Port Authority (HPA) has three key pillars: environment, sustainability, and engagement. This role will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure HPA is effectively managing all three of these pillars.


Environment:
This pillar focuses on regulatory compliance while ensuring HPA identifies and leverages best practices in environmental protection.

The role requires some understanding of the Impact Assessment Act (IAA) as it relates to capital programs and an ability to learn and build relationships rooted in awareness and continuous improvement.

This pillar is managed by the Environmental Lead who will work closely with this role.


Sustainability:

This pillar focuses on proactively seeking opportunities to build sustainable activities across all areas and communities in which we operate.

This pillar forms the largest percentage of the role. It requires demonstrated experience in managing projects to completion, capturing results, and using past learnings to inform future projects.

It requires an ability to think big-picture, and long term; to partner with Real Estate, Assets and Infrastructure, Operations and Engineering and other departments across HPA to ensure decisions are made with an eye to both environmental protection and sustainability.


Consultation & Engagement:

This pillar is critical at HPA and centers around upholding the legal requirements for consultation and engagement outlined in the Impact Assessment Act, particularly as it relates to Indigenous peoples.
