The Child & Youth Mental Health & Addiction Program's Regulated Clinician is a key member of the interdisciplinary team who provides assessment, consultation and treatment modalities that may include group therapy, individual therapy, community outreach and advocacy in a manner consistent with KHSC's (HDH Site) Mission, Vision and Values and that reflects the core values of Patient and Family Centred Care (dignity, respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration); the Regulated Clinician will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and ethical values as defined by their respective College; participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives.

Develops and coordinates the discharge plan in conjunction with the treatment team including connection/referral to appropriate internal and/or community resources; this position is primarily assigned to HDH-Child & Youth Mental Health and Addiction Services, with service provided to the Family Child & Youth Clinic.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Initiate appropriate timelimited individual and group psychotherapeutic interventions, providing evidencebased therapies such as but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Applied Behavior Analysis, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Family Therapy.
  • Collaboratively develop psychotherapeutic treatment goals within the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide education sessions to patients and families, as well as to public audiences and external groups as needed
  • Perform duties in accordance with relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures
  • Participate in intake, referral assessment as well as interdisciplinary team meetings and rounds
  • Complete detailed and comprehensive documentation in accordance with outpatient services policy and procedures, and professional/College requirements
  • Liaise with referral sources and other community providers to promote effective discharge planning
  • Maintain workload measurement and related data collection tools as required
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Promote a work environment that is in accordance with KHSC Policies
  • Participate in hospital and program committees and task groups, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Educational background/professional designation and experience in one of the following regulated professions:
  • Social Work: Masters of Social Work Degree from an accredited university, and member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and two years experience providing direct clinical services within a mental health interdisciplinary service supporting youth with neurodevelopmental disorders _or_
  • Psychotherapy: Completion of a health related Master's Degree and registered in good standing with an appropriate college responsible for psychotherapists such as College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and three years experience providing direct clinical services within a mental health interdisciplinary service supporting youth with neurodevelopmental disorders or
  • Occupational Therapy: Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy and a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and experience providing direct clinical services within a mental health interdisciplinary service supporting youth with neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Current enhanced security clearance (criminal reference check) for vulnerable populations administered by the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC)
  • Highly developed clinical skills in interviewing, psychosocial and risk assessment, crisis intervention and treatment (individual, group and family therapy) in modalities such as cognitive behaviour therapy with patients and families, dialectical behaviour therapy and other empirically supported modalities
  • Significant clinical experience in nonviolent crisis intervention and deescalation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria for psychiatric disorders most prevalent with children & youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, Child & Family Services Act, Health Care Consent Act, Powers of Attorney Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Personal Health Information Act and other relevant legislation
  • Extensive knowledge of evidencebased practice and current experience in the assessment and treatment of complex mental health disorders
