Overview:


The prime objective of the Shipping Supervisor is to meet shipping commitments in terms of volumes, deadlines, and cost in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

In addition, he or she will ensure Shippers are held accountable for established work standards and performance levels in order to achieve the Plant's objectives and targets.


Responsibilities:


Safety and Environmental Leadership:


  • Ensures safety and the environment are core values within the shipping department.
  • Leads/organizes daily and monthly safety meetings and ensures actions are completed.
  • Completes regular safety compliance auditing.
  • Ensures all safety training is current and relevant.
  • Investigates and resolves all environmental noncompliance issues.

Operational:


  • Coordinates rail car loading, movements and availability in close cooperation with CP Rail.
  • Works closely with the sales and distribution team to understand plant shipping requirements.
  • Creates a daily/weekly shipping plan and ensures it is executed by the shipping team while making necessary adjustments to meet customers' needs.
  • Manages bills of loadings and completes daily reconciliation of shipping documents.
  • Minimizes demurrage costs by ensuring rail cars are loaded in a timely fashion.
  • Works with the Production Coordinator in scheduling of equipment stoppages for inventory control and maintenance purposes.
  • Resolves any issues relating to cement shipments and when further assistance is required, works with the area team.
  • Investigates customer complaints and incidents with the assistance of the Quality Department.
  • Coordinates the silo transfer activity in line with customer demands and plant schedule.
  • Responsible for housekeeping of the shipping area and general upkeep.
  • Responsible for scale certification and scale maintenance while working in conjunction with maintenance to ensure all required work is complete.
  • Supervises and coordinates service related contractors.
  • Supervises the Yard Department on a replacement basis.
  • Support Production coordinator on a replacement basis.
  • Supervises and manages all inbound raw materials inventory, schedule and deliveries working with Production Coordinator on material needs.
  • Helps coordinate and supervises refractory install for major kiln stops.
  • Organizes and manages refractory inventory.

Personnel:


  • Develops a positive tam environment by promoting the ACE values.
  • Organizes shipping manpower to best suit the department's requirements.
  • Removes any roadblocks to ensure shipping employees are working efficiently and effectively.
  • Defines objectives for the Shippers and carries out the necessary performance reviews.
  • Promotes quality of work and motivates personnel.

Relationships with Others Jobs:


  • Works closely with the Production team
  • Collaborates with the maintenance team on the execution of mechanical and electrical maintenance.

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience:
_**- Post-secondary education is an asset.
years' experience in a fast paced manufacturing industry setting.


_ Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bilingual
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Good knowledge of production management and planning.
  • Good working knowledge of cement manufacturing.
  • Good knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control testing.
  • Good knowledge of kiln outages/refractory.
