Primary Function:
The Regional Continuous Improvement Manager will support and lead regional initiatives that promote operational excellence and achievement of business objectives.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Business Leadership
- Act as liaison between the organization & facility on continuous improvement initiatives and provide guidance and support for network improvement initiatives
- Network with internal/external resources to bring best practices to lean projects and operational processes
- Collaborate crossfunctionally to drive network standardization and operational excellence
- Provides mentorship to the Grainger supply chain to further enhance problemsolving abilities
- Develop, implement, and lead Lean Six Sigma principles throughout the organization.
- Facilitate and mentor use of CI and LEAN tools and lead/support deployment of system solutions that deliver sustained improvement and performance.
- Oversee, develop, and lead overall programs and structures for LEAN efforts within the distribution center while mentoring and working with leaders and active team members in LEAN and CI.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the Grainger Principles.
Operational Excellence
- Hold responsibility for ensuring process optimization and standardization across the GCAN DC Network
- Ownership of the DC processes to ensure internal and external customer expectations are achieved (create, optimize, & maintain)
- Develop strategy deployment plans that align with company directives
- Lead largescale Kaizen events to engineer bestinclass performance
- Perform "Go See's" for aligned facilities to review current state, gauge behavior of the operation, identify/address opportunities, & observe results
- Design & facilitate training programs to culminate a selfsustaining culture of continuous improvement at all levels within the operation
- Engineer department layouts required to obtain bestinclass safety, quality, & productivity
- Drive analytics innovation by identifying advances in technologies that automate the process of data integration and enhance complex modeling
- Successfully tell the story through data and metrics
- Intake process change requests and prioritize for relevance, feasibility, cost, & impact to the organization
- Define, assess, & report DC throughput capacities to senior leadership
- Design data visualization standards, highlighting organization & buildinglevel KPIs
- Drive analytics innovation by identifying advances in technologies that automate the process of data integration and enhance complex modeling
- Tasks may vary from performing studies and audits, to facilitating kaizen and problemsolving events on the floor at an operator level, to presenting/leading crossfunctional management discussions
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering strongly preferred, but will consider other degrees combined with relevant professional experience in Lean / Six Sigma
- 35 years of management experience preferred
- Experience in process optimization, operations, or business management
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems in a timely manner, while working closely both internal and external partners/contractors.
- Demonstrates the ability to lead initiatives, manage large scale projects and execute change leadership
- Able to demonstrate situational leadership and lead others not directly under his or her control.
- Continuous Improvement mindset and the ability to act as a strategic thought partner
- Demonstrated abilities in project management and team facilitation to drive results
- Strong communication and influencing skills; capable of speaking in an effective and influential manner to team members and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to manage virtual teams, leveraging necessary technology
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Experience in lean manufacturing tools (i.e. value stream mapping, Kaizen, Spaghetti Diagram, TOC, A3, TPM, root cause problem solving) to identify and develop solutions that drive operational improvement
Technical Requirements:
- Graduate Level MS/MBA Preferable
- Green/Black Belt six sigma certification beneficial
- Value Stream Mapping, Capability Analysis, PFMEA (PDCA) experience
- Extensive knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen techniques (5S, Standard Work, Setup Reduction, Flow, TPM, Mistake-Proofing, DMAIC)
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Excel, Access, PowerPoint, & Visio
Work Environment:
Travel of approximately 50% is anticipated
