Position Purpose and Summary
The Systems Administrator is responsible for installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and security of systems hardware and related infrastructure.
This individual provides Tier 3 support including technical analysis, design, and guidance to support operations of IT and the University.
Key Areas of Accountability- Manage and maintain the organization's computer systems, servers, and networks.
- Perform system installation, configuration, and routine maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Monitor system operations, troubleshoot issues, and resolve problems promptly to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights to maintain data security and integrity.
- Implement and maintain data backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical information.
- Collaborate with the IT team to plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
- Conduct regular system performance and security audits, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in system administration to ensure the organization's IT infrastructure remains uptodate and secure.
- Provide technical support and assistance to endusers, addressing their inquiries and resolving systemrelated problems.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and user guides.
Standards and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven work experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and SQL Server administration.
- Proficiency in managing virtualization technologies such as VMware.
- Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other network services.
- Familiarity with network protocols, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and VPN technologies.
- Solid understanding of system security principles and best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical individuals.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer) are a plus.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends to support special projects or resolve critical incidents.
