Position Purpose and Summary

The Systems Administrator is responsible for installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and security of systems hardware and related infrastructure.

This individual provides Tier 3 support including technical analysis, design, and guidance to support operations of IT and the University.

Key Areas of Accountability

Manage and maintain the organization's computer systems, servers, and networks.
Perform system installation, configuration, and routine maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and availability.
Monitor system operations, troubleshoot issues, and resolve problems promptly to minimize downtime and disruptions.
Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights to maintain data security and integrity.
Implement and maintain data backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard critical information.
Collaborate with the IT team to plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
Conduct regular system performance and security audits, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
Stay updated with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in system administration to ensure the organization's IT infrastructure remains uptodate and secure.
Provide technical support and assistance to endusers, addressing their inquiries and resolving systemrelated problems.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and user guides.

The Person

Standards and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven work experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role.

Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and SQL Server administration.
Proficiency in managing virtualization technologies such as VMware.
Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other network services.
Familiarity with network protocols, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and VPN technologies.
Solid understanding of system security principles and best practices.
Excellent troubleshooting and problemsolving skills.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to nontechnical individuals.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer) are a plus.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends to support special projects or resolve critical incidents.
