What You'll Do


The Weekday Night Shift Production Supervisor for the Toronto, ON MDF Manufacturing Plant is responsible for leading their team to achieve Metrie's common goals of safety, product quality and delivery of the plant production budget.

Reporting to the Production Manager, this position requires a strong emphasis on coaching, mentorship and leadership to optimize employee performance in accordance with safety procedures.

This position is responsible for the supervision of the plant operations in producing quality products in an efficient manner. The Production Supervisor will be involved in continuous improvement projects and LEAN initiatives.


Please note this opportunity is for the weekday, overnight shift which runs Mondays to Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 4:00 AM (approximately) and require the individual to also attend Production Meetings scheduled during the week.


Responsibilities

  • Proven leadership skills and experience with a focus on leading by example.
  • Ensuring the culture, management practices, and work environment encourage a safe, top performing, highly engaged, and diverse workforce.
  • Understand company safety regulations and relevant occupational health and safety legislation and ensuring safe work practices are being implemented, followed, and taught with a handson leadership approach.
  • Understanding machine processes, production administration and associated systems, and quality standards within the plant.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and priority management skills.
  • Effective communication with production employees and skilled machine operators.
  • Continually and critically monitoring machine center operational effectiveness to reduce waste.
  • Proven training skills required to improve production employees and skilled operator knowledge and skills.
  • Understanding raw material and labor costing.
  • Ability to organize and execute directions in a fast paced dynamic environment.
  • Ensure that customer service is prioritized in the plant operations.
  • Provide supervision of shift operations to ensure the production schedule is executed to the plan.
  • Lead and support Health and Safety policies; conduct workplace inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Implements production plans and makes adjustments as needed to produce products within the required specifications
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of employees including internal and external training.
  • Promote teamwork amongst all shift personnel to keep operations efficient and free from accidents.
  • Organizing shift operations for optimal benefit to the business.
  • Providing positive and effective customer service support.
  • Provide toolbox meetings to the plant employees to foster sharing of ideas and communication of company strategy and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 35 years previous supervisory and safety training experience
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and compliance
  • Preference given to primary or secondary solid wood manufacturing experience
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing including 5S, TPM, Kaizen events, SMED, Root-Cause / 5 Whys, etc.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of webbased computer programs and Microsoft office
  • Post-Secondary Education (College, University) is preferred
