Department Community Services

Location South - Lindsay

Hours Part-time, approximately 6-24 hours per week

Other Hours include evenings and weekends.

  • Arrange returned materials on book carts and shelves them in proper order
  • Read library shelves to ensure material is in correct order
  • Assist at circulation desk and perform checkin and checkout procedures
  • Repair and clean library material
  • Assist with preparation of craft material for children's library programs
  • Provide general library information to library patrons
  • Empty book drop and take returned items to proper place for checkin
  • Assist with cleaning and dusting of library shelves
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills/Education Required

  • Two years secondary education, with previous library experience as an asset
  • Must be familiar with the public library system
  • Ability to sort efficiently in alphabetic, numeric or alphanumeric order, and to develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal and other systems of library materials arrangement
  • Ability to prioritize work load and to work effectively with mínimal supervision
  • Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public and staff
  • Excellent written communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
  • Demonstrated customerservice skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search will be required
