Eastern Region Marine Services are responsible for the maintenance, capital needs and dry-docking of all 8 vessels that it owns: Wolfe Islander III, Wolfe Islander IV, MV Glenora and MV Quinte Loyalist (both operating at Glenora), Frontenac II and Amherst Islander II (both operated at Amherst Island), Simcoe Islander II and Howe Islander.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:
- coordinate, schedule, plan, oversee and manage electrical services in the general upkeep, installation and renovation of electrical services for electrical and electronic systems on board ferry vessels, at docks and dry docks, at terminals and other facilities
- ensure regular maintenance of electrical and electronic devices, ensuring that all work is completed according to contract documents and specifications
- perform emergency repairs on board ferry vessels at sail between two terminals (i.e., Kingston and Wolfe Island or Glenora and Adolphustown) and at multiple municipal ferry operations such as Howe Island and Amherst Island
How do I qualify?:
Mandatory:
- Certified Maintenance/Construction Electrician (309A) or Industrial Electrician (442A) under the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act.
Electrical Knowledge:
- you have knowledge of practices, procedures, specifications and standards related to the inspection/maintenance, installation and repair of electrical/electronic/navigational devices and their support structures
- you have knowledge of electrical codes and safety procedures
- you have knowledge of complex electrical systems and ability to create, read and review wiring diagrams and schematics
Technical Knowledge:
- You have experience with contract administration, including administrative procedures, reporting requirements and documentation
- You can prepare detailed cost estimates for proposed work
- You are able to administer contract terms, and make recommendations with respect to contractor payment certificates
Communication, Supervisory and Interpersonal Skills:
- You have effective communication skills to provide technical advice and recommendations
- You have well developed written skills to prepare detailed cost estimates for proposed work
- You have strong negotiation skills to deal effectively with contractors and consultants
- You are able to deal effectively with ministry contacts and the public
- You have supervisory and planning skills to direct and coordinate the activities of assigned ministry staff and contractors
