Join the Indigenous Relations and Environmental Policy to help with the development of ministry policy related to Indigenous consultation and engagement, manage inter-ministerial policy and program proposals (as they relate to Indigenous issues), and assist with critical projects and facilitate resolution of issues to support the ministry initiatives and priorities.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • conduct assigned policy research and analysis and develop options to issues, consultations and outreach activities
- promote and implement the transportation goals, objectives and priorities of the ministry
- maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive issues and for the resolution of contentious and politically sensitive issues arising at the project level
- provide analysis and technical advice in the development, evaluation and implementation of new and revised economic and transportation programs, policies and approaches
- enhance economic status, organizational and program effectiveness, and efficiency of engagement efforts and consultation with First Nations and Métis communities


How do I qualify?:


Indigenous Issues and Relations:

You have:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and advise on transportationrelated Indigenous issues and community economic development opportunities
  • Knowledge of Indigenous issues including history, culture, treaties, land claims, negotiations and consultations

Policy Development:

You can:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new or changed policies and programs
  • Assess performance and identify shortfalls and service gaps
  • Work cooperatively on joint policy development projects and develop a coordinated position on policy issues

Analytical and Research Knowledge and Skills:
You can:

  • Identify and analyze contentious issues, plan, research and implement communications strategies
  • Discover relevant issues within written materials, procedures and legislation which may be illdefined
  • Understand interrelated, large scale economic and transportation related issues, and develop practical and effective long and shortterm options
  • Identify and evaluate contentious issues and determine appropriate mediums for effective information and awareness campaigns
  • Identify emerging Indigenous issues related to transportation objectives and within the context of ministry transportation policy, priorities and programs

Consultation and Communication Skills:

You can:

  • Establish and nurture key partner linkages
  • Explain research analyses, provide policy advice, explain Indigenous and transportation policy and program recommendations and issues
  • Present or discuss to appeal to the interest of various partners and influence them to accept a desired course of action
  • Develop issues plans, briefing and information notes, communications strategies, news releases, presentations, speeches
