- Repairs and calibrates biomedical equipment within the workshop or in patient care areas, often in the presence of clinical staff and patients. After-hours and on-call service might be necessary.
- Conducts scheduled safety and performance inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment within Interior Health.
- Performs incoming inspections of biomedical equipment to uphold appropriate standards and departmental policies.
- Maintains comprehensive reports and records on labor, travel, and parts used during service and support activities, aligning with departmental policies.
- Travels to Interior Health hospitals to deliver biomedical equipment repair and preventive maintenance as instructed.
- Manages supply levels, orders service parts for repair or inventory, and completes purchase and inventory requisitions. Identifies suitable vendors and second sources parts following Purchasing protocols.
- Offers technical guidance at the point of care to clinical, paramedical, and technical personnel on safety, operation, maintenance, procurement, installation, and disposal of biomedical equipment.
- Evaluates the technical, performance, and safety aspects of new biomedical equipment under consideration for procurement.
- Contributes to biomedical equipment replacement planning by highlighting outdated equipment or those with high failure rates.
- Acts on Device Hazard Alerts and Recalls as needed. Identifies medical equipment hazards in clinical areas to safeguard patients and staff, notifying relevant management and Biomedical Engineering Leadership.
- Conducts equipment performance and safety tests on units involved in incident investigations.
- Attends specified service training courses and engages in other educational opportunities to sustain competence in new products and service areas in Interior Health at the Employer's request.
- Collaborates with and supervises manufacturers' service personnel during installation and warranty tasks to ensure adherence to facility policies and provincial regulations.
- Performs any additional duties as necessary.

About the position:
Aligned with the organization's vision and values, the Biomedical Engineering Technologist will travel across Interior Health to carry out various technical functions related to the Biomedical Engineering Program.
These functions encompass evaluating new equipment, ensuring medical equipment safety, repairing equipment, conducting scheduled inspections and tests, maintaining pertinent records, and providing clinical staff with educational support and technical knowledge.
