Description

The Roof Inspector (Technician) position will primarily be responsible for field work to assess the condition of existing roofs and to perform rooftop Quality Assurance Observations for roofing installation work.

The role will require both field and office work and will be based out of our Victoria office location.

The role also includes preparing roof condition assessment reports and tasks relating to project management and contract administration of ongoing roofing projects; training will be provided as needed.


Major Duties & Responsibilities:


Quality Assurance Observation:

  • Perform rooftop Quality Assurance Observation of work in progress to ensure compliance with tender documents and applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform RCABC QAO in accordance with their guarantee program and RCABC milestone warranty reviews.

Site Work May Include:

  • Measuring
  • Drawing to record asbuilt conditions
  • Corecuts and investigating opening of roof, parapet walls and walls
  • Collect roof material samples for HazMat testing, training will be provided
  • Identifying deficiencies
  • Photography and data processing, etc.
  • Other tasks may be required to ensure timely completion of deadlines
  • Conduct on site testing, including:
  • Moisture scanning
  • Moisture probing
  • Fastener pull testing
  • Adhesive pull testing
  • Roof anchor certification load testing
  • Assist in preparation of predesign on an as needed basis
  • Conduct leak investigations
  • Conduct attic investigations
  • Attend prebid site meetings and bid closing assessment meetings as required.
  • Perform site evaluations, inspections and testing as required to produce condition analysis reports
  • Extended travel as necessary to perform the above listed duties, mostly limited to Vancouver Island

Other Responsibilities:

  • Compilation of data and photos into report form Photocopying and assembly of reports
  • Keep abreast of current trends in the industry to ensure professional development
  • Ongoing professional development via the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC)

Requirements & Qualifications:


  • Possession of TQ (Red Seal) qualification in Roofing, or similar work experience.
  • Possession of RRO (Registered Roof Observer) accreditation, or qualified to obtain the accreditation through IIBEC.
  • Able to ware half mask respirator
  • Vehicle able to carry a 32' ladder and suitable for winter conditions
  • Able to carry and set up ladders and operate power tools
  • Excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Selfmotivating and ability to multitask while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to act with business integrity
