Security Systems
Instrumentation Technician.

The Security Systems Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintenance, repairs, calibrations and installation of Security communications, assessment, detection, server/computer networks, operator interfaces and related systems required by CNL's operating license to ensure safety, reliability and proper operation of the equipment.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing electronic and instrumentation services to Security Program including preventative maintenance, installation, repair, process measurement and control testing and calibration to ensure the accurate functionality of equipment and instruments. This includes snow and vegetation management to support optimum Security systems equipment operation.
  • Assisting the department by recommending the procurement of materials, spares, tools and equipment and ordering parts required for stock, projects and repairs to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Performing the operational troubleshooting of all electronic, computer, IP network, electric and mechanical related systems and equipment to determine the cause of the problems and the required corrective action.
  • Developing work plans and upgrades in procedures and makes recommendations of modifications to equipment or changes to maintenance programs to improve reliability and efficiency of equipment.
  • Preparing and maintaining service records of all work completed and work required ensuring consistent recording and follow up.
  • Assisting in the training, coaching and mentoring of other employees to excel with technical and operational understanding, safe practices and procedures.
  • Facilitating, enabling and leading work that involves other CNL workgroups or Trades.
  • Operating various company vehicles and equipment; Trucks, Vans, ATV, Bucket Trucks, Lifts & Booms.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and CNL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

What we are looking for:


  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and drawings.
  • Ability to perform in 24/7, near 100% uptime system environment.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multitrade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Skill to logically and systematically troubleshoot complex software & hardware repairs and installations.
  • Ability to use current technical tools and resources to propose solutions to system issues or practices to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, radiological areas, asbestos areas, outdoors in all seasons, complete manual labour tasks and available to perform routine oncall responsibilities as required to maintain & support overall system.
  • Knowledge of electronics, networking, computers, electrical, mechanical and RF (radio frequency) systems equipment and devices.
  • Knowledge of IT networks configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Windows based server & workstation hardware and software.

Experience

  • Relevant experience or a trade certificate in Instrumentation and Control.

Education

  • College diploma in Industrial Instrumentation or Electronics.

Security Eligibility Requirement

  • Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of seven (7) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".
