Job Summary


The Chinese Seniors Outreach Worker will develop and facilitate programming as well as provide information, referral and other relevant services to isolated Chinese Seniors living in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

She will work in partnership with non-profit housing and social service organizations to build networks for isolated seniors to improve their quality of life.


Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the Chinese Seniors Outreach Worker will work in collaboration with other DEWC staff to promote integrated services to women.

She will work from a feminist perspective and within an anti-oppression framework.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and facilitate informational workshops and programs related to identified needs of lowincome isolated Chinese seniors living in the downtown eastside.
  • Provide individual support to isolated seniors to access and maintain appropriate social, health, learning and recreational networks.
  • Develop and facilitate the Lunar New Year celebration as well as other cultural events.
  • Develop and maintain resource files and provide education on available services and supports; translate DEWC information such as the DEWC monthly calendar to ensure accessibility of internal programs and services to Chinese seniors.
  • Attend lowincome housing, and other community spaces to connect with isolated Chinese seniors for the purpose of referral, support and program development.
  • Consult and liaise with community service agencies to maintain uptodate information on available resources and develop community relations.
  • Maintain and provide statistics and reports regarding programming and service delivery as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other DEWC programs and service providing support and coverage where needed, including the Drop In and/or Shelter.
  • Support the operational needs of the organization such as attending staff meetings and staff development training opportunities, sitting on various committees as needed.
  • Act as an ambassador for DEWC by representing and modelling DEWC mission and values.
  • Other related duties not specified that may be assigned from time to time

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Permanent, Parttime, 9 day fortnight
  • Union: BCGEU / Salary $27.66 hr.

For bona fide position requirements Chinese women only are considered/ Cantonese & Mandarin languages spoken an asset.
