Primary Purpose


Fleming College, Toronto Programs is a public college-private partnership between Fleming College and Trebas Institute, with academic delivery and student support services managed by Trebas Institute.

The Community Wellness Lead is responsible for supporting the overall health and wellbeing of students within the college community.

The incumbent will be the primary point of contact to assist students with health and wellness related matters, while driving college-wide health-related initiatives, programs and events focused on raising awareness.

The Community Wellness Lead will be an expert at health and wellbeing, play a very active role within the college community, and provide timely health-related support and intervention to students as needed.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive and holistic health and wellness program, in collaboration with Student Engagement staff, that encompasses a wide variety of domains including mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a wide variety of studentfocused healthrelated services, programs, and events to promote and raise awareness of health and wellbeing in the college community.
  • Responsible for creating, planning and executing health and wellness events, activities, volunteer opportunities in our semester calendars.
  • Identify the individual, group, and organizational health risk factors and wellness needs of students by using a variety of studentfocused assessment tools.
  • Strategize and create health campaigns and initiatives on a variety of healthrelated topics like nutrition and exercise, smoking awareness programs, health risk assessment campaigns, firstaid trainings, and more.
  • Recommend and develop standard operating procedures and policies relating to health and wellness while providing basic training to college staff on best practices.
  • Provide timely health counseling and crisis intervention to students in distress and in need of wellness support or assistance.
  • Develop promotional strategies in accordance with organizational policies and procedures to raise awareness of health and wellness initiatives within the college community.
  • Support students and their families (spouses or dependents) who may need outside intervention by securing partnerships with local community support like daycares, social workers, youth services, family settlement services, etc.
  • Actively participate and engage with local community activities, programs, and committees that could directly or indirectly affect the overall health and wellness of students.
  • Collect data to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of health and wellness programs; suggest and execute improvements as identified.
  • Analyze and respond to current societal and cultural trends to effectively deliver innovative wellness programs that meet the contemporary needs of students.
  • Be mindful and knowledgeable of the geopolitical, cultural, and religious perspectives of health and wellness and strategize on how to address these factors using a studentfocused approach.
  • Perform all assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and goals of the institution and community.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential database of student documentation, records, and interactions while completing all other administrative duties as required.

Position Requirements

Education and Experiences**- Undergraduate Degree and/or Diploma in Health & Wellness, Community Services, Social Work, Psychology, Family Studies, Child Development or Education related field.

  • Formal accreditation in counseling, health coaching, mentoring, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (3) years of professional work experience providing counseling, mentoring, crisis intervention, health coaching, and/or education.

Skills and qualifications

  • Expert level of understanding and awareness of health and wellness.
  • Effective communication, verbally and in writing (presenting workshops, seminars, speeches and facilitating groups, writing reports and proposals, and developing promotional materials).
  • Proven organizational, time management, case management, and crisis management experience.
  • Thorough understanding and respect for diverse cultures, religious practices, and families.
  • Knowledge of community services and supportive resources for newcomers to Canada
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Immigration laws and regulations for international students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Exceptional written and communication skills, as well as mediation skills.
  • Maintain and provide a high level of confidentiality with clients.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite
  • Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent assessment and problemsolving skills.
