Number of Positions Open: 2
- Delivers an individual and groupbased education program to teach SELF (Safe Space for an Early Learning Foundation) participants to prepare their children for school through individual home visits and group activities;
- Provides practical baby care and emotional support to Good Beginnings participants;
- Completes YWCA Hamilton and programspecific training as required including Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), and the Supporting Mother/caregivers and Supporting Mothers and Raising Toddlers (SMART);
- Coordinates and completes weekly home visits with participant families according to the SELF and Good Beginnings guidelines;
- Develops a service delivery plan together with the SELF mothers/caregivers;
- Provides support to mothers/caregivers as per the program guidelines;
- Organizes and delivers group activities for participant families;
- Provides information on community resources and support systems available and encourages their use;
- Maintains appropriate record keeping and reporting in accordance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures, and confidentiality/privacy policies;
- Provides reports and updates to Program Management when required;
- Participates in annual Health & Safety training provided by the YWCA;
- Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;
- Provides recommendations to strengthen existing policies and/or processes;
- Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
- Attends and participates in staff/team meetings;
- Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
- Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
- Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
- Maintains high level of confidentiality/privacy when working with client information;
- Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works 37.5hour work week;
- Work schedule includes days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends based on program need.
Qualifications
- Completion of or currently enrolled in Social Service Worker Diploma (SSW), Community Service Worker Diploma (CSW), Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma, Child and Youth Worker Diploma (CYW), or relevant lived experience and education;
- Working knowledge with Child and Family Services Act;
- Womanidentifying and nonbinary individuals over 18 years old;
- Adhere to the YWCA policies, procedures and quality standards;
- Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Must provide proof of immunizations (MMR, 2step Tuberculosis Test valid within 6 (six) months, and Tetanus Vaccination within 10 years);
- Must have a Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain at own cost;
- Ability to provide emotional and practical support to participants in the program;
- Ability to travel to a participant's home and out in the community;
- Reliable, nonjudgmental, kind, caring, and able to listen;
- Experience providing inperson home visits is an asset;
- Experience working with newborns and/or children is an asset;
- Must have skills using MS Office programs including Excel and Word
- Ability to bring a feminist, antiracist/antioppressive perspective to work
