    Position Overview:

As a member of management and reporting to a Director of Services, each Service Manager will be assigned a portfolio of responsibilities, which will include overseeing the operations of several service units as well as responsibilities for specific liaison, service area, special projects, policy or reporting functions.

The portfolio for each Service Manager will be determined by the Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director and Director of Services and may be amended at any time.

This authority has been approved by the Board of Directors.

The Services Manager will ensure the implementation of Tikinagan's Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin service model which emphasizes the use of Mamow Obikiahwahsoowin care and consultations and involvement of family and First Nations in decision-making.

The Service Manager will ensure services are delivered following the vision, goal, principles and values listed in Tikinagan's Vision Framework.

The Service Manager will work together with the service senior management team to ensure that agency services meet the requirements of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the First Nations mandate, Ministry licensing and service standards, as well as the agency's mandatory policies and procedures.

The Service Manager will develop and maintain effective working relations with staff members and other community service providers assist with the development of policies and work plans, and other duties that may be assigned by the Directors of Services.

As per the direction from Tikinagan's Board of Directors and by Chiefs resolutions, and in order to work in the true spirit of Tikinagan's Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin Service Model, Tikinagan has been moving services and staff positions to the community level.

While currently most of the Service Manager positions are based in Sioux Lookout, the direction for the agency is to move Service Manager positions to community based branch offices as part of Tikinagan's decentralization efforts.


Qualifications Desired:

  • Post-Secondary education in the field of Social Services, BSW or MSW preferred.
  • Ability to converse fluently in Ojibway, Oji-Cree and/or Cree.
  • Experience in administration, management and leadership, with demonstrated knowledge and skills in the areas of supervision, policy development, program management, team building and organizational development.
  • A minimum of five years experience in the field of child welfare, with demonstrated knowledge in the key areas of child protection and residential care services.
  • Understanding of the collective culture of the Nishinawbe-Aski Nation and the traditional values of family and communities.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including travel by air and winter road.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of both Covid19 vaccinations.
