As the practice leader for Property & Casualty insurance public policy issues, you will develop annual plans and report progress on the key public policy priorities of the Desjardins General Insurance Group.

You will also lead and coordinate our engagements with key industry associations and related external institutions.

You lead and influence development projects and complex, highly innovative strategic initiatives involving multiple sectors. You help develop and recommend strategic directions and business positions. Your initiatives require extensive knowledge of your field.


You will help protect, maintain, and enhance the organization's image, and you will represent Desjardins Group's interests when interacting with various governments and industry stakeholders.

You will promote policies and programs for external audiences through, lobbying and institutional affairs.


You will primarily focus on building relationships between Desjardins and provincial governments in Ontario, Alberta and the Atlantic provinces related to property & casualty insurance.

You will also likely engage on issues important to other Desjardins business sectors and as needed at the federal and municipal government levels.

You will be registered in provincial and federal lobbyist registries when appropriate.


You will make recommendations on the development and delivery of government submissions and projects with a high degree of complexity that require analysis and a detailed, comprehensive understanding of the business and the machinery of government.

More specifically, you will monitor upcoming consultations, carry out preliminary analyses of issues facing the organization and coordinate responses and action as needed.

You will plan and coordinate meetings and may organize public appearances. You may also be called on to present and participate in certain events.

Coordination is critical, so you frequently interact with stakeholders working in a wide range of other fields. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential.

General Information on the Position

Main Responsibilities Represents Desjardins to all levels of government and external institutions.

Performs research on specific issues; offers relevant and compelling information that assists in their development of good public policy Provides insight into the political and public administration process to Desjardins employees and agents- Collaborates with other Desjardins government relations and institutional affairs colleagues located in Ontario and in Quebec.


Other working conditions- Schedule : To be available some evenings- Workplace: Position located in Aurora, Toronto or Mississauga, depending on the applicant selected.

The work arrangement for the position is hybrid work #LI-Hybrid- Travel :10% of the time- Number of jobs available : 1


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, public relations, communications, law, or in a related field
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience
Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered.


Specific knowledge- Knowledge of government structure and parliamentary mechanics- Knowledge of the property & casualty insurance and/or financial services industry- Knowledge of Desjardins Group (an asset)- Strong communication skills in French and English, both oral and written.
