DUTIES:


Reporting to the Airfield Maintenance Supervisor (Winter), the Airfield Maintenance Technician (AMT) (Winter Seasonal) is part of the Halifax International Airport (HIAA) airside maintenance staff.


The AMT (Winter Seasonal) is responsible for the safe and efficient snow removal and ice control on runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons and around airport infrastructure, by use of heavy equipment such as single and tandem-axle trucks, airfield plow/sweeper/blower units, snowblowers, loaders and by manual means, as necessary.


The AMT (Winter Seasonal) is responsible for the safe and efficient upkeep and maintenance of all hard surfaces, grounds and fencing encompassed on airside, in all types of weather, while adhering to all applicable policies and procedures.

The AMT (Winter Seasonal) will also assist with the general maintenance of HIAA facilities and equipment as required. The AMT (Winter Seasonal) may be requested to perform other duties including acting leadership roles.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum five (5) years experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment
  • A valid class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement
  • Experience operating heavy equipment for the purposes of snow and ice control
  • Familiarity with best airport practices for snow remediation on runways, taxiways and aprons an asset
  • Familiarity with airports and/or airside operations an asset
  • Experience in construction, general labour and hard surface repairs
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of commonly used software programs

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES SHALL:


  • Obtain and retain an HIAA Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC), an Airport Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP-D) and a Radio Operator's Certificate
  • Aeronautical (ROC-A)
  • Produce and maintain acceptable driver's abstracts and criminal background checks
  • Demonstrate aboveaverage safety awareness and situational awareness
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Canada Labour Code
  • Demonstrate aboveaverage mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively within a team through use of critical thinking skills and behavior to help ensure the team's success
  • Demonstrate ability to build and maintain positive and respectful working relationships
  • Demonstrate ability to take direction and implement instructions in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, with internal and external customers
  • Demonstrate ability to perform well in a fast paced, customer serviceoriented work environment
