Lead and Safety Training Specialist


Women Building Futures (WBF) is a non-profit organization that empowers women to become economically prosperous through industry recognized training and resulting careers with WBF Employers of Choice.


This role carries two areas of responsibility:
HSE advising and the delivery of safety training initiatives. The role is also accountable to lead WBF's safety program and promote a positive health and safety culture. It also carries responsibility for organizing and/or delivering safety training to our staff and students.

This is an in-person role at our downtown Edmonton location, however WBF operates our life changing programs all over Alberta and is entering Saskatchewan and Ontario.

As such this role is responsible for our main Edmonton region location as well as our partner training providers in other regions.

Occasional travel may be required.


Key Responsibilities:
HSE


  • Develop and implement new safety policies and procedures as required.
  • Maintain and update existing safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety emergency and safety policies and processes (i.e., emergency response drills, first aid, OH&S.
  • Lead and monitor safety practices within the organization by creating, assessing, complying, and advising management on ways to lower risks and prevent events.
  • Ensure standards are maintained and documented, issues are resolved according to safety guidelines.
  • Oversees and directs incident investigation and analysis.
  • Maintain ACSA Certificate of Recognition (COR) standards and conduct internal audits as per COR certification requirements.
  • Deliver new hire/student safety orientations.
  • Manage on site contractor safety orientations.
  • Perform Training Centre risk assessments, safety audits, inspections, and safety meetings.
  • Lead the Health and Safety Committee presenting recommendations to the organization.
  • Responsible for keeping records of safetyrelated incidents and recommendation /administration of corrective actions.
  • Intervenes in the case of unsafe activities or operations being carried out by employees, students, contractors, or visitors within the workplace.
  • Conducts offsite visits as necessary.
  • Organize tool management program and ensure the safe operation of shops, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is available and used correctly.
  • Inspect tools and equipment for defects and wear and perform/organize repairs.
  • Maintain Tool inventory.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety Training


  • Design and implement safety curriculum to be delivered by Instructors to students during training programs.
  • Deliver safety ticket training which may include (but not limited to) first aid, H2S, fall protection and confined spaces, etc.
  • Organize and enable staff participation in HSE training as required.

Education and Training:


  • Post-Secondary education in related safety discipline
  • 7+ Years of experience in health and safety trades environment
  • Safety designation
  • CRSP, CST, NCSO or CSO preferred
  • Experienced course facilitator familiar with adult education principles.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision while paying close attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of remote work practices.
This is a full-time position.
