The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental illness.

The Commission is seen as a leader nationally and internationally in several areas.

Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by Changing Directions Changing Lives:

The Mental Health Strategy for Canada, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population-based initiatives, and engagement.

This prioritization will enable the Commission to be successful in meeting its mandate, staying focused, and having a measurable impact for those living with mental illness and their families and caregivers.

POSITION OVERVIEW:


Reporting to the Manager, Prevention and Promotion Initiatives, the Program Manager L2 will provide coordination, management, and research analysis primarily to the suicide prevention area and will also work in collaboration with other MHCC departments.

The Prevention and Promotion department supports various projects and activities including suicide prevention, peer support and recovery. The Program Manager will primarily support MHCC's activities in suicide prevention.

This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Build and enhance relationships with relevant stakeholders and partners;
  • Provide strategic analysis and advice to guide project implementation including recommended options to engage target audiences and determine how to best approach partnerships;
  • Undertake research on key topic areas, particularly in the area of suicide prevention;
  • Maintain a pulse on current events, public discourse and on stakeholder activities, interest and progress on issues relating to assigned files and related topics;
  • Review, analyze, and synthesize key reports and relevant literature;
  • Manage and plan meetings, roundtables, workshop events, and webinars in support of policy or topic areas;
  • Provide project management support for activities;
  • Represent the MHCC at public functions, conferences or meetings as required;
  • Assist with development of performance measurement indicators and assist with evaluation;
  • Work proactively in collaboration with relevant MHCC departments (Communications, Stakeholder Relations);
  • Assist with the maintenance of the MHCC's corporate relationships with relevant stakeholders, policy makers, researchers, and community partners in the area of mental health;
  • Provide budgeting and financial support to manage project deliverables;
  • Act as a mentor to support the development of MHCC team members, and help develop a productive team environment among MHCC team members;
  • Other duties as required.

  • Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skill, including comfort with public speaking;
  • Excellent organizational, and research synthesis and analysis skills;
  • Demonstrated skill in building collaborative and integrative working relationships and in working with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives;
  • Ability to influence others;
  • Ability to plan, manage and deliver complex projects;
  • Ability to plan and execute events and webinars;
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as with a team;
  • The ability to learn quickly and get up to speed on complex, nuanced topics;
