About UsThe Role
The technical translator is responsible for the translation, authoring and publishing of OSI's project documents from English to German, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the translation process.
This role is crucial in facilitating effective communication and collaboration between our English-speaking teams and our German-speaking counterparts at OSI Maritime Systems.
Key Responsibilities- Translate technical project documents, including but not limited to specifications, manuals, reports, notes on (CAD) drawings and proposals, from English to German.
- Revise and correct translated materials.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and clarity of translations, maintaining the technical integrity and terminology specific to naval defense.
- Conduct research as needed to clarify technical concepts and terminology.
- Maintain a terminology database with project specific terminology.
- Review and edit translations to ensure grammatical correctness, coherence, and adherence to company standards.
- Understanding cultural nuances and differences between English and Germanspeaking audiences can help ensure that translations are not only accurate but also culturally appropriate.
- Manage translation projects efficiently, meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Support the project team with discussions with the customer when clarification is needed on the terminology.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information throughout the translation process.
- Author detailed procedures based on input from various SMEs, engineering specifications, and engineering design documents.
- Format and publish technical manuals that comply with either contract requirements or internal OSI standard practices.
- Support development of an organized structure for new technical manuals based on the scope of the manual and optimal sequence and grouping of information.
- Participate in technical content reviews with SMEs as part of the quality assurance process of technical manuals.
- Support the management of technical content and configuration control of documents within a centralized database.
- Approver for German content prior to submission to external parties
- Proficiency in both English and German, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in technical translation, particularly within naval defense or related industry is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of technical terminology and concepts related to engineering, maritime technology, and defense systems is an advantage.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to produce highquality translations under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in translation software and tools (e.g., CAT tools) is preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with S1000D or XML is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Office is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related field is
- Relevant certifications or memberships in professional translation associations are a plus.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
