Role Responsibilities:

The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Status of Women has an exciting opportunity and is looking for an Auto Body Technician to join our team


The Auto Body Technician provides professional technical services for the restoration, preservation, maintenance, and interpretation of Alberta's rich cultural property at the Reynolds Museum.

These services are provided in compliance with professional international museum standards and in fulfillment of the Museum's goals for preservation and presentation of Alberta's material culture.

In your role as an Auto Body Technician, you will:

  • Provide technical expertise and research to curatorial in the safeguarding of artifacts from damage, to minimize deterioration by demonstrating proper operating and handling techniques and to establish standards of care for the display, operation and storage of artifacts.
  • Provide research and technical expertise in response to requests from other museums, special interest groups and the public in regards to their artifacts.
  • Undertakes the treatment of actively deteriorating or otherwise damaged collections: restores, stabilizes, repairs, consolidates and mitigates structural, mechanical and aesthetic loss.
  • Provides technical expertise and assists with the planning, implementation, maintenance and delivery of permanent and temporary displays or exhibits and annual programming.
  • Plans, prepares and delivers educational workshops and programs for the public on the inspection, restoration, maintenance and preservation of artifacts.
  • Ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, W.H.M.I.S. and other regulations. Keeps up to date on the act and its regulations.
  • Helps to plan and break down critical paths for projects in keeping with available funding and the needs of the annual cycle of events and programming. Provides both specific and general technical services and educational activities with respects to the museum's collection and undertakes the appropriate followup to ensure client satisfaction.
To be successful in this position you must possess:


  • Knowledge of historical transportation, agricultural, industrial artifacts and their maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to actively demonstrate vintage land transportation, industrial and agricultural artifacts.

  • University graduation in a related field plus three years related experience; or equivalent as described below. An Alberta Journeyman Trade Certificate as an Auto Body Technician is required.
