Position Information:
- Radiation and Laser Safety
Rotation/Shifts: - Days, 4 hour shifts
Basic Requirements:
- Honours Bachelor degree in Health & Radiation Physics, Medical Physics, Radiation Biology, Engineering or Nuclear Physics or a combination of equivalent education and experience;
- Minimum four to seven years of experience in health physics or related technical field i.e. medical physics, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, or diagnostic imaging;
- Four years experience in monitoring and handling radioactive material or radiation emitting devices;
- Experience in leading a team including educating team members on issues relevant to the team's success;
- Experience in the implementation and management or auditing of a Radiation Safety Program (in whole or in part);
- Extensive knowledge of Radiation instrumentation use and maintenance and design or radiation areas;
- Comprehensive experience in identifying, assessing and controlling radiation hazards;
- Good knowledge of emergency response principles;
- Excellent knowledge of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, its regulations and guidelines, and the TDG Act and Regulations;
- Knowledge of provincial regulations relating to xray;
- Experience in training program development, delivery and evaluation;
- Experience working in a large hospital environment (or radiopharmaceutical company), or licensed nuclear facility;
- Experience working or interacting with a regulatory body;
- Proven high level of diplomacy and judgement;
- High level of reliability and initiative;
- Skilled collaborator and communicator;
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Health & Radiation Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering or Nuclear Physics;
- Certification in training and/or adult education;
- CRPA registration;
- Board of Health Physics certification;
- Membership with the Canadian Radiation Protection Association;
- Experience in the licensing process of class II facilities (medical accelerators) or registration of xray equipment;
- Formal certification or training in laser safety a strong asset;
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
