ABOUT WASCO:

Winnipeg Airport Services Corp.

(WASCO) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Winnipeg Airports Authority that provides quality airport operations, management, facility maintenance and technical services to Canadian Airports.


WASCO has been retained by airports, to develop, implement and manage the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for thirty-seven certified and registered airports.

All airports are northern and remote that have service daily scheduled/charter air services and are a vital link of goods and critical services to each community in which they serve.

Nunavut Airport Services Limited (NASL), a WASCO subsidiary, was contracted to manage and operate the Iqaluit International Airport, through the first Private Public Partnership (3P) in Canada for 30-years with the Government of Nunavut.

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW:


Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist at WASCO and its subsidiaries plays a key role in providing day-to-day HR support.

This includes employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and training. The position involves coaching stakeholders, handling investigations, facilitating disciplinary processes, and supporting accommodation plans. The role also includes policy and procedure updates, payroll and benefits administration, and cross-training within the HR Department.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide coaching, guidance and facilitation on employee relations, labor laws, performance management, investigations and the disciplinary process.
  • Support Inuit engagement practices and policies for NASL.
  • Responsible for providing initial advice and guidance related to terminations;
  • Responsible to help coach and guide managers on having performance conversations with employees;
  • Develop, implement and monitor manager and employee compliance with Passport to Excellence (PTE) program;
  • Work with Hiring Managers on creating recruitment strategies for open vacancies, including development of interview questions, conducting interviews and coaching and guiding managers on selection process;
  • Develop Return to Work Plans for people returning from various leaves;
  • Provide support with organizing, scheduling, and communicating organizational events to employees where needed;
  • Under the direction of the HR Coordinator, Total Rewards, support the payroll, benefits, and pension processes for WASCO and NASL employee groups;
  • Continuous development, improvements, and standardization of existing Employee Relations practices, Performance Management Program, Recruitment Process, Leave Management, Workplace Injury and Accommodation processes, and WASCO and NASL Corporate Policies; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Human Resources, or equivalent education. CPHR designation is preferred;
  • 5+ years' experience in Human Resources, with experience supporting and working with remote locations;
  • Experience with diverse cultures and northern populations is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and write Inuktitut is preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience navigating the Canadian Labour Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Human Rights Act;
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Ceridian (Dayforce) HRIS platforms is an asset.
  • Expert level oral and written communication, presentation, technical writing and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to travel to remote locations as required; and
  • Flexible and willing to take on additional or new responsibilities as required.
