Reporting to the Director, RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers and in close collaboration with program chairs, faculty and staff from across the University, the Outreach Coordinator, Career Development is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of a dynamic and responsive suite of programs and services designed to enhance early-career preparation and success of OCAD University (OCAD U) students and recent graduates.

The incumbent will focus on job development; connecting curricular programs with job opportunities in a strategic, cohesive and forward-looking fashion in support of emerging artists, designers and related creative professionals, while working as an integrated member of the RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers.


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • In consultation with the Director and partners from across the University, plan and implement a comprehensive career development program for students and recent graduates, including significant outreach efforts to generate disciplinespecific job opportunities, professional development needs of students, and connections with employers, community and social enterprises
  • Organize, and deliver a series of workshops designed to augment curriculum and prepare students with interpersonal and professional skills critical to success in the art and design fields
  • Enhance resources for the student community on a mix of traditional and leadingedge career development related topics and job search skills, including resume writing and interview skills, portfolio development and marketing one's self
  • Contribute to a dynamic web and social media presence to connect and inform students and alumni of resources, trends and opportunities within the art and design world locally, nationally and internationally
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with employers, community agencies and other partners to stimulate employer interest in students and graduates, and structure opportunities based on reciprocal needs of students, partners and OCAD U
  • Oversee the ongoing development of the online student/alumni job board, the OCAD U Talent Network
  • Champion oncampus and local employment opportunities for students, serving as the hub for student employment
  • Coordinate Universitywide careerrelated events, such as the annual Design Career Fair, Graduate School Fair, Cultural Community Expo and Industry Night
  • Implement a communication and assessment plan that evaluates the effectiveness of Career Development programs and helps to track alumni employment outcomes
  • Create programming and employer activity in the Centre's physical space
  • Coordinate hiring, supervision, delegation and training of student monitors, ensuring relevant training (e.g. health and safety, AODA, etc.) has been provided; perform related administrative tasks
  • Assist the Manager, Operations with the tracking and monitoring of Career Development budgets and program reporting
  • Identify and generate revenue sources where possible and appropriate
  • Assist the Manager, Operations and Director in related functions contributing to the successful operation of the Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Masters degree in an art and/or design related discipline, with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a higher education environment; experience in program development, design and assessment required; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in the administration of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or related database platforms required, with the ability to undertake sophisticated reporting, analysis and measurement of related data
  • Measurable achievements in largescale event management required
  • Active practice as an artist or designer an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong, outcomeoriented partner relationships in various sectors, which have involved negotiation, contracting and other related skills
  • Track record of designing and delivering career related and/or professional practice educational programming and student advising; experience using adult education methodologies preferred
  • Proven interpersonal leadership, presentation and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking and writing reports
  • Demonstrated ability in exercising tact, sound judgement and confidentiality
